*SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* HOLY SHI- Nanoha executes Tiia for insubordination.
Well, not really. But she does some serious damage in order to knock some sense into her wayward trainee (who has Dead Brother Complex). Just when I thought this was going to be 20 minutes of training session where Tiia overcomes the angst of almost killing Subaru in the previous episode and we go back to happy clappy mode, but what we get is Nanoha going White Devil, quietly sad, seemingly hollow but also terrifying in her calm and ruthless exercise of power - not just physically breaking Tiia but also shattering Subaru’s mental image of her (what a Shinn face). And all this is linked to the serious injury that Nanoha suffered which was alluded to in the A’s to StrikerS comic.

Gratuitous changing room scene! Tiia in Tsundere mode again as Subaru declares that they are partners, a pair, a combi.
Nanoha notices their happy afterglow. I particularly like how Subaru is oblivious to her partner’s embarrassment.
It seemed harmless enough at the time. Even Tiia had doubts about Subaru defying the instructions and advice of the person she admires so much (do I detect a hint of jealousy?). In fact, Subuaru actively encourages Tiia to carry out her dangerous and reckless battle plan in their mock battle. Former had reasoned that it’s ok because (1) it’s for the sake of getting stronger and (2) Nanoha is really kind…

So Subaru is actually very complicit in Tiia’s actions and from the shape and flow of the battle, Nanoha realized this - thus the bind and forcing Subaru to watch as she goes White Devil on Tiia.
The preview has promised an explication of the badly injured Nanoha flashback. Looks like that trauma has demonstrated to Nanoha that she’s mortal and not invincible, and probably is a big factor in her emphasis on safety and prudence in training and tactical planning. Classic case of being cruel to be kind as she doesn’t want her young and inexperienced trainees, with their potential and ambition, to repeat her own mistakes.

Holy ^%&! indeed. I also expected “crisis du jour” especially after the dead brother complex. But oh, so wrong. I was amazed at the nasty edge nanoha’s tough love has. Good on her. Her irrepressable cheerfulness always irritated me. :-)

I’ve always known that Nanoha was a badass and pwns things in the face with the best of them… but WOW, this was a whole new level that I never expected. I was all thinking, awwww, Tiia/Subaru happy friendship bonding yay. That must be the episode, how nice. Mandy, ooh yeah Tiia x Subaru really bond this episode. I think it had to be done because Tiia has apparently learnt the wrong lessons from her failure in ep 7 and combat instructors have to clamp down hard to stop trainees from hurting themselves and their comrades.
…Dayum. Lot of fodder for the NxY shippers, and a lot of development for Subaru and Tia’s relationship.
My image of Nanoha was shattered as well. Didn’t quite think she’s go White Devil on her own subordinates. Makes things much more interesting for future eps. tho. >=D
Seriously, enough with the nice act all the time Nanoha. I want a teacher’s lounge episode with Fate and Nanoha just verbally trashing all the noobs and making fun of them. It could be Lyrical Nanoha Lucky Channel.

P.S. - His newest pictures deal with the StrikerS drama CD which you should really listen to if you haven’t had a chance yet. Aside from the manditory onsen adventure it provides some interesting insight into Subaru and Teana’s relationship. Subaru isn’t as dense or stupid as some people might think. ;) And for people who like that pairing I guess you could say track 11 is for you since you can interpret it as possible one-sided ambiguity.
Holy shit Strikers is getting better than A’s! Never thought I’ll look forward to Nanoha episodes…
