I confess that I initially picked up this series because a few of the wallpapers made me think: Mmmm… Lesbian Asuka x Rei clones in the wild wild west. :D~~~ But alas, it was not to be. I was going to say that this Bakuretsu Tenshi (Burst Angel) OVA needed MOAR yuri but then I think it does have MOAR yuri compared to the original series (which I only vaguely remember given how I fast-forward marathoned and then sent it into recycle bin hell). Nowhere as nice as in the manga but, hey, given that low expectations are the secret of happiness, I wasn’t pissed off with this OVA - totally agree with tjhan about the costumes though.
Some nice Jo x Meg cuddling; Jo actually being affectionate towards Meg! Will wonders never cease!?
I did mentally groan when Meg got captured. The Main Office should pass some kind of statutory limit on how many times this plot device copout can be used on any one character. At least Meg recovered some of her dignity with a good clean shot.
And off they sail into the horizon. Looking forward to Meg’s oneesama upgrade, seems like it’s not just StrikerS that’s havin’ ‘em characters growin’ up.
I was actually pretty dissapointed with the OVA. It didn’t have Meg whining about not having a boyfriend, true, but it wasn’t the manga Meg and Jo I’d hoped to see. (It wasn’t event the figurine Meg and Jo the wife bought me that same weekend, which are metcha-cool.
And the animation was lame. Especially for an OAV.
I keep my fingers crossed that things look up in the future.

I really love Burst Angel manga, and am considering watching the anime one, but then reading your article made me feel… dissapointed… gotta stick wz the manga then.
Jo got really nice hairstyle, wow! She looks so cool, but somehow so manly.
Erica, after the horrors of Hellsing etc my attitude towards GONZO productions is to see just how badly they are going to butcher the story and characters; maybe the manga team will seize control of the next season but I wouldn’t get my hopes up too much. The anime budget was probably eaten up for the CG for the killer robot it seems. And congratulations on receiving the Jo x Meg figurine set - one of the best Jo and Meg sculpts available.
Xantha Del, actually if The Right Stuf had the BakuTen boxset in its bargain bin, I wouldn’t mind getting it but not at recommended retail price. Augh. What I like most about Jo are her brief flashes of tenderness towards Meg - makes her much more interesting than just strong, silent, GAR etc.
