Mai Otome Zwei 2

I really enjoyed this episode. Psycho Tomoe is always a pleasure to watch. Also nice how Chie got a big role (and the most number of WTF facial expressions); not surprisingly, she has a fan club of screaming fangirls! I wonder what Aoi would say. :P

Her Magician’s Wand and Hat otome powers could easily have been so ridiculous but Chie makes it so cool. The dimensional travelling hand reminded me of Shamal and the Masked Man attacks in Nanoha A’s while the puff of pink smoke from disappearing the Super Slave could have been a Gundam reference? Would have been even better if her Delta Force subordinates had addressed her as oneesama. You can never had enough ‘oneesama’ calling by cute girls.

This looks familiar

Got to see more of Sara Gallagher whom I thought was promising in the way she nannies Haruka despite being the junior. Besides having a Mirage Colloid (like the Blitz in SEED) and a Big Boomerang, her black robe makes her look so much hotter.

Like so. *boing*

And her dazed reaction to Haruka’s ‘How long are you going to cling to me?’ was pure win. Not such a terror after all and Haruka finally able to be more oneesama-like towards her for once.

Finally more Nao-oneesama! The whole Yamada-chi thing was great, reminded me of how Chan hated it when Balalaika called him ‘babe’. We just had the barest of glimpses of Nao in the first Zwei episode:

I don’t think the French mime outfit of the Stripes gang (any connection to the notorious lolipedofiend gang led by a certain tanuki?!) was that bad but the shades certainly was +3 to Nao’s already considerable Charisma. Hopefully she’ll have a big role in the next episode.

I have to say I was wearing my own ‘WTF expression’ at Chie’s magic hat routine.

Well, you KNEW Chie had to get something… although I wasn’t expecting her own gang of minions/support Otome. Plus, between that and the Magic hat… well, they’re definitely no longer taking this seriously. Which is a good thing in my books, since the best parts of Otome were the humor of the early eps, before things went and started getting serious about 17-18.

… but we needed more Tomoe, dang it. And more Mai. More Aoi would’ve been nice too.

heh, congrats on move! looks great

Wererat42, me too. Except I was completely won over the moment she punched that guy out of thin air.

Haesslich, yeah, love the Chie power-up. Sarah did mention that she must have had her promotions fast-tracked to command the Delta otome; I suppose someone recognized her service in infiltrating the Valkyries.

Zanza, thanks! :) As I type right now, the dreamhost site is down *again*.

Zyl: I just like the fact that Chie has her own gang, the way Nao had one… except these ones are all attractive sniper Otome, where Nao has a bunch of burly men in French Mime outfits. Of course, it also appears that the Robes have the ability to.. enhance certain features, since Sarah Gallagher does NOT look nearly that.. ahem… full-figured until she puts the Robe on.

Tsubaki, sometimes I only catch these things when I do the screencapping. As such, anime blogging is fun. Anime blogging banzai! ;)

Haesslich, yeah… attractive sniper Otome harem 4tw. I also wonder what Aoi would have to say about that. :P re: robes – I actually dislike Nao-nee’s robe much more than her French mime outfit. Couldn’t they give her something that didn’t look like a puke-green spiderwoman wannabe!? T_T

…how exactly does nanomachines manipulate space/time…all the other otome powers are almost vaguely understandable with a cupful of salt if you ignore energy but this one really takes the cakes…just killing my daily allotment of catgirls…

…that blue haired delta’s too much like a boy if you just look at ‘her’ face…and according to Nagi’s exposition at the end the trees of Aires all have nanomachines in them…what…

Zzz – considering how the Black Valley vanished, they’ve apparently got SOME control over it – heck, without that, how would Midori and company summon their CHILD-like rides? Or how would elements suddenly expand from one small thing to a huge impaling sword? Even if you take the nanomachine explanation with a bit of salt… well, without some access to other dimensions or dimension-warping, you’d be hard-pressed to explain how their Elements suddenly just EXPAND – or for that matter, Arika’s ‘Bolt from the Blue’ would be impossible without it.

The way I see the other Elements/Childs working can be near rational if you watched Kiddy Grade (I know…I know…) and understood the ‘Nano Mist’ concept from that show. The basic building blocks of the element/child is the nanomachines residing in and around the otomes. Increases in weapon size, sudden materializations (suits included), etc are a result of nanos coming together and physically building or adding to a object. Arinko’s uber attack is more a problem in energy since it’s merely accelerating a large sharp object really quickly. Even shields and Nina’s organ doomsday device (every action has a equal reverse reaction ftw) can be attributed to mass (from nanomachine matrix) bolstered by energy. Judging from the tree I pointed out all of The World may be covered in nanomachines but only otomes and that stupid organ can control it with their own nanomachines. So the explaination for elements, suites, and childs can be explained from a material standpoint but space warps cannot unless there’s a Black Hole in Chie’s tophat that she wears on her head. Yeah, real smart. But then again this is Sunrise. As for the Black Valley I got the impression that it sank underground, it’s been a while since I watched it.

Let’s look at it this way – the vanishing of the Black Valley was attributed to a slip between dimensions – there’s your proof that they DO have some control over space-time: the way those Aswad Childs show up out of glowing portals is suspicious as well, and does not look like they’re being created en-situ from local materials. Arika’s Bolt From the Blue shows a portal closing behind her, not a bunch of matter being converted to a higher energy state, as happened with Akatsuki or Mai’s Element when she leaps through it. Also, I wonder where all the energy for those Otome tricks comes from – the Otome is unlikely to be a huge battery or super-generator; otherwise Guarderobe would probably be using that to power their facilities… which is possible. I suspect that an Otome’s power supply for their energy guns, force-fields, etc are being pulled from elsewhere; perhaps a tap into hyperspace or a higher-level power source not physically close-by.

But this is Sunrise, so arguing science is like debating the merits of Star Trek versus Star Wars. AKA a losing proposition

    Garderobe even.

    …*points at last comment*…

    …ehhh?!?…

…debating Sunrise is actually a bit worse than ST vs. SW…just not as well know as a problem here in the US…the reverse is probably true in Japan…

…although the energy problem is exactly the issue I had with my theory…zero point energy…I had thought…but I did forget about the portals…or the dimension slip coment…

…my idea originated from the fact that otomes, childs, slaves, and elements decompose (spark) when they die/are dematerialized…except when they crack first…

Yeah, I suspect that they may be COMPOSED of higher-state, nanite-assisted matter… but things like Elements, Childes, Robes, etc, have a extra-dimensional component as well; I can’t see where they’d be getting power otherwise… and you could say that without the containment units or whatever that tie an Otome, Child, and so on to the world when its source is disrupted, that those things are ‘returning to the Ether’.

    Fixed.

Actually, ‘Sunrise’ fits in there as well as anyone; some anime stays very close to reality in terms of the laws of physics… a claim that I cannot make about ANY Sunrise show.
