I, for one, am feeling pretty ticked with Navel (and not because of the Rin/Kaede FTW opening). Don’t get me wrong; “Shuffle” was a good anime, but if I want to see it again… I’ll watch the 24 episodes I have burned to a DVD.
Unless I see something like “If W4 misses this, he’ll kick himself for all eternity” in a future review, I think I’m going to have to drop “Shuffle Memories.”
I fell asleep even though it was Kaede episode… I phail badly.
But then, I’ve watched the recapped scenes a lot already…. says much for an anime when the most interesting part were the OP and ED’s.
I haven’t rewatch Shuffle recently so this feels like a refresher, besides having a clear focus helps me to get through it (new Asa stuff).
Looks like each girl will get two eps, intro 1 (2 x 5), if total 13 eps then = at least two episodes worth of completely new stuff hopefully!

Nah. The age of consent in Singapore is 16. However, if you are caught having sex with a minor age 14 or below, you will get bonus penalties, and lots of loving in jail( in more meanings than one ;) ).
Nevertheless, we’re an oddball country when it comes to legal age limits.
Nowhere in the world can you find a country where its’ citizens can have sex(16), get married(18), drink booze(18), drive a car(18), shoot a real M-16 with real bullets(16), but not watch a movie with nudity in it(21).

Steven, the laws are inherited from our British colonial administration who, at the time, had Victorian sensibilities. I think that could make one see the Emma anime in a whole different light.
Skane, yeah, there’s a funny discrepany there because Sect 376(e) of the Penal Code defines statutory rape at below 14 but jurisprudence seems to indicate age of consent is 16 though I’m not sure where this is indicated in the primary legislation. Sect 376 also implies that a man *can* be legally married to a girl who is 13 years old [even though the normal age of consent for marriage is 18 vide Sect 9 of the Women's Charter (exceptions in Sect 21 and Administration of Muslim Law Act)] AND if her husband forces her to have sexual intercourse, it’s NOT rape.
Okay, this is where we start getting specific on the differences between statutory rape and rape itself. I am not a lawyer, so if any lawyers out there are reading this, correct me if I am wrong.
I will use a ‘recent’ case in Singapore where a silly boyfriend got charged with statutory rape of his girlfriend, despite the fact that consent was given. Why? He apparently got impatient and had sex with her on the eve of her 16th Birthday. Give it up for him, ladies and gentlemen. If he had only waited a couple more hours, it would have been legal.
Now… this does not make him a full-fledged rapist in the eyes of the law. His crime was statutory rape, not rape. Still with me here? He’s not some creepy rapist who prey on women against their consent. He just failed to adhere to the age restrictions.
Just like how drinking alcohol at the age of sixteen doesn’t tag you as a hardcore criminal. It just happens to be illegal.
Now rape. Real rapists are 99.99% scum. I say 99.99% because there might be some exceptions, but don’t ask me who. However, the idea of allowing children having sex, even if it is consenting, is disturbing; and under most laws, children under the age of 14 are not considered to have a will of their own. As in, they are usually not fully aware of consequences( in the eyes of the law), especially when coddled by others.
So… how do we protect these young kids who may not fully understand the concept of right and wrong? Why… why not write up a couple of laws that inform the citizens in no uncertain terms that should you violate the sanctity of those kids’ innocence, the law will violate the sanctity of your pretty little butt. Not to mention the welcome party that awaits you in jail.
That silly boyfriend I mentioned before? His cell-mates would probably just laugh at him and slap him on the back for being so impatient. A guy who had sex with a 14-yr old? He’s gonna learn the limits of his A-hole.

Ah wait, my mistake. I read up a bit more, and it is a difference between non-statutory-rape(NSR) for having sex with a 15-16yr old girl, and statutory-rape(SR) for having sex with a girl 14yr old and below.

Skane, I’ve done some further checking up and under 16 is also SR but under 14 constitutes ‘aggravated’ SR - so 16 is the correct age of consent as you mentioned before and I’ve amended my post accordingly.
DrmChsr0, my guess is that Asa’s backslap may be more bark than bite - from two examples, she isn’t all that strong (exhausted after carrying all the groceries when Rin ditched her for the Kikyou date) and her hand actually hurt a hellalot after a backslap (after her park bench counselling). I think Rin will make an excellent diver, winning countless penalties for Japan in their next World Cup bid. :P
This is ridiculous. I can understand 1 or 2 eps of recaps. But an entire series to recap the original series that’s less than 5 years old?? Are you serious?!?!? And to think that the studio actually makes money off of this is just absurd.
