Things pick up with some Edo-style martial arts drama. Magistrate Beikimon is abusing her power with the imposition of a hauhau tax; anyone who cries has to cough up JPY 100 per cry. The 1-C gang, now formed as the Pani Ponin, set out for great justice.

Plenty of Kurumi abuse. Surprised that it was only in this episode that I liked Miyako Uehara, probably one of the most unlikeable Horie Yui roles ever. Maybe it’s because she hardly whines and the forehead joke is only being really prominent once (but used to good effect).

Suzune x Otome innuendo 4tw.

…rararu~~~
Would have loved know what kind of attack Kurumi would have used.
Even if it would have been totally ineffective and regarded as plain.

Or rather Iron Forehead Skill. LOL

Of course, it’s Rei that manages to get Becky in the end with her usual trick. The use of Cowboy Western OST for her appearance was really nice, given how the influence of Japanese film on that genre, most prominently The Seven Samurai being remade into The Magnificient Seven. Now that the magistrate herself has to pay the hauhau tax, she realizes the injustice of it and all’s well that ends well. Including the brilliant faux period ED and sequence.
This episode was just so random, but I really heart for Kurumi, and the trauma she had to endure in this one.
Narf.
Kurumi abuse is always fun. LOL
I’m still trying to put my finger on WHY I find Miyako to be a much more interesting character just for this episode…
Might be because of the change in character design. It’s not a huge difference (beyond the obvious difference in period clothing), being mostly just the eyes and hair (and even more constant grimace), but somehow she’s about 800x hotter (not that any of the PPD girls were ever really unattractive).
And speaking of hotter than usual…

Is it just me, or does Suzune look like she’s looking for the star-shaped birth mark?
I’m sorry, I just could NOT get into “Pani Poni Dash!” and for the life of me, cannot understand how it actually garnered enough support to be licensed over stateside (I’ll just slouch off to my lonely “Piles and Files” and dream of ADV licensing “Pita Ten” someday) Though to be fair, since I did get a copy of the fansub, I feel obligated to support its American release by buying it…*sigh* mayyyyyybe the dub will make it worth wataching again, but I found the anime itself to be just too disjointed (I kept wanting to *throttle* the d%$@#d rabbit), and then cleanse my palate with a dose of “Rumbling Hearts”
