		<description>j.valdez, I tried the system restore as well as the Last Known Good Configuration restore (pressed F8 for the option list when booting up).

torpy, thanks for the link. The AGP chipset driver won't install because apparently a file is missing or corrupt. About your second option, what it looks like is that the AGP controller is in conflict with the VGAsave. I have thought about disabling the VGAsave but then I'll need an external monitor to work with after that plus there's no guarantee that, if the conflict is resolved, that the chipset and ATI drivers will install.

Looks like I'll have to go with your last suggestion (also suggested by Kurogane) for a complete re-install. (Which is also the conclusion that Compaq service support has also reached after trying all sorts of restores and BIOS upgrades.) Sigh. Thanks for everyone's inputs!</description>

		<description>I'm not sure if it will work, but did you try the system restore option (all programs-&#62;accessories-&#62;system tools). I'm not sure if the restore tracks changes the programs you mentioned.</description>
