Trapped by the Kurogane Doctrine

Jun is the main reason why I am still watching Happiness! Haruhi bores me to tears while the Ilya clone is irritating. Anri and Koyuki are cute but don’t have enough series differentation power. No wonder Happiness! is regarded as one of the two trap shows of this season even though the trap here is only a supporting character; Mizuho in Otoboku, on the other hand, is the lead character and the dramatic irony of his trap status being a major plot point.

I dearly want to have a Jun-centric episode that hopefully explains his backstory. I also deeply appreciate the heroic Jun screencapping by Atashi (who, btw, is a girl). The Kurogane Doctrine is a witty slogan adopted by those of us who are experiencing a crisis of sexual identity due to Jun fanboyism; the doctrine itself, however, is a trap of its own.

Black Lagoon 19

Rock and Revy are in Japan. Rock is interpretor (通訳 つうやく) for Balalaika’s meeting with a yakuza group. Not entirely sure why Revy has come along too. Not for her skills as a gunman as she’s unarmed and Balalaika has sufficient protection of her own. Rock also has to act as guide and interpretor for her too. But I’m not complaining - never thought I’d see her in a skirt!

Magical Loli Lolical Nanoha

Among the varied impetus for picking up this series were to build up background knowledge for the coming of StrikerS, Stripey’s constant nagging and the possibility of yuri. As far as I can tell, this series about the adventures of Fate Testarosa as she tries to recover the Jewel Seeds on behalf of her mad mom (> FMA). Fate-chan is eventually redeemed by the love of the eponymous side-character-heroine of the series. Huzzah.

Pani Poni Dash! 22

Not a favourite episode of mine despite the delightful pixie game mode. TV crew comes to the school to interview the teacher and students. Everyone is eager for their 15 minutes of fame but something always goes wrong. 1-C thinks they’ve got a winner because of their very unique teacher but Becky unexpectedly reacts badly.

On the consideration of the similarities and dissimilarities between the Malus and Citrus genera

Cory of Renegade Anime Blog poses the interesting question of whether anime blog aggregators operating on ‘closed garden’ (blogsuki) versus ‘open acceptance’ (animenano) principles result in less episode summary/reviews and more editorial posts being showcased. Based on the data presented, the answer is somewhat inconclusive. He renews his call for less episode summaries/reviews and more editorials as well as more commenting and trackbacks. Meanwhile Michael of anime|otaku proposes economic and psychological reasons for the continued dominance of the episode summary/review style of anime blogging.

This post examines some research design issues related to Cory’s initial line of enquiry before considering the normative assumptions and prescription that underlies the study. It goes on to suggest an additional reason for the popularity of the episode summary/review style.
