Black Lagoon 13

It’s a dark and rainy night in Roanapor and gangsters are getting butchered by the Aizen twins. Yes, I know it’s the first episode of Black Lagoon Second Barrage but the title gives the episode number as 13 and it’s even got the same OP/ED so 13 it is. My listening comprehension was only about 30% so looking forward to the fansub. Fragmented summary blah blah and Balalaika-centric screenshots ahoy!

A gangland conference is attended by Chan (Triad), Brego (Sicilian mafia?), Aburego (Colombian Manisera Cartel) and Balalaika (Hotel Moscow). The South American, in particular, only refers to Anego as “Fry Face.” Chan wants to maintain their peaceful coexistence but Balalaika points out that the balance of power is changing. Brego asserts that this must be done by some new gang bringing in killers from outside. Balalaika suspects Aburego but he vehemently denies it. Chan wants Balalaika to let the police take care of it [cooperate with the other mafia] but she says that when she finds who is responsible, she’ll kill them, their families and even their pets. Someone call the SPCA!

As Rock muses about how the Punisher seems to be making the rounds, sexy nun Eda from the Church of Violence butts in and wants to work together with Revy to find those responsible and to split the $50,000 reward. We learn that Balalaika is so worked up about it because two of her men were killed. Police Chief Watsup shows her the crime scene, briefs her on what happened and even hands over relevant evidence to her. The perps were a pair of kids, one an axe wielder and another was a Coyote Ragtime Show para-loli. They claimed to have links with the front company used by Hotel Moscow but end up ambushing the Hotel Moscow pair that turn up to collect their protection racket money from the establishment. The pair rather confusingly (and naseautingly) call each other “big brother” and “big sister” respectively. As Balalaika leaves, Watsup tells her that the police will also be joining in the hunt - because he wants the reward too. In their Merz, Balalaika discusses the next steps with Sergeant Boris Menisov - loli-siscon is evil and must be destroyed.

The Lagoon Company realizes that Hotel Moscow will be going on the warpath because they are no ordinary gang, having a strong camarederie forged during military ops in Afghanistan. Meanwhile the twins’ paymasters (leader called Mori, Japanese Yakuza?) are shocked by their depravity and order them to leave this town. Balalaika calls Rock, the resident linguist, to interpret some of the clues provided by Watsup and he links to it to vampirism, thanks to the magazine Revy is reading. Perhaps what Balalaika should do is to call in Alucard and Seras.

Decent buildup episode. Very pleased by the strong focus on Balalaika, my favourite character. Always appreciate the close-ups of Revy’s arse, being flustered by Eda and referring to Balalaika as “anego” (big sis in gangland terms). Next episode looks really exciting with all hell breaking loose and we get more of Chan and Revy doing their John Woo style two-handed shooting. Yay!

    That’s EDA? Holy crap, that habit hides a LOT - and it’s heavy as hell to boot, given what’s shown here.

    By the way, whose hands are paired there? I have got to hope that Shinsen or someone else jumps on this series ASAP.

    Thank you, Shinsen. Released just two hours ago.

    shinsen is AMAZING. :)

    Zyl, now you know whose sub to get. ;)

    This one was a fun ep, especially since I NEVER expected to see Sister Eda like that, or to see that her… well, I’ve yet to see a small-chested woman in this series, but she REALLY takes the cake. From that angle, they look almost as big as her head.

    Probably one of the best non-Gothloli shots in there. Who knew Sister Eda dressed up like a streetwalker in her off hours? ;)

    Yeah!, I had forgotten there was going to be more Lagoon. I heard something about it a while back.

    >> “Always appreciate the close-ups of Revy’s arse”

    I hadn’t realized the extent of arse shots in this show until now.

    Oh yesssss. Hot smex.

    Some lines that made me do a double-take.

    “Ladies do not carry heavy things,” says Gretel… as she is firing her machine-gun.

    “I’ll like to try it. I’ve never put an Ivan in before,” says Gretel.

    The above lines made no sense to me at first, until the cogs turned and made me go, “Say WHAT?!” Gretel wanting to have sex with a corpse is one thing, but she is implying that she has done it before( just not with a Russian). Okay…

    I wonder what Balalaika will do to the twins… From her dialogue in this episode, this is not the first time that she has had to deal with enemy children.
    ~~~~ ~~~~
    On a side-note… will Stripey find Gretel moe? She is a loli, has the hots for her brother, and her Gothic Lolita outfit resembles that of a Meido one.
    Cheers.
    I find it testament to Rock’s subconcious aura of pwnage/impression upon women around him that have power in that they come to him with their problems whether they be bored (Eda) or need a translator (Balalaika). XD
    Still, Eda using Rock to tease Revy about was pretty funny in of itself. Even worse was that Rock was just chuckling about it behind Revy’s back. Revy’s gonna have to step up her game if she wants to keep exclusive rights to her ‘Rock Baby’.
    Hanzel and Gretel…seriously, whoever raised up these two kids was waaaay~ messed up to begin with.
    Want to bet that Gauron had a part in their upbringing?
  11. 11 Zyl
    Thanks, just got hold of the sub! *rubs hands with glee*
  12. 12 Kuroshiro
    Um… “resident linguist”? Do you even have any idea what a linguist is or what they do?
  13. 13 extraclassiclite
    Look it up before you criticize. That usage is correct.
  14. 14 Zyl
    Kuroshiro,
    No, not really. Except when they are cunning. ;)
    extraclassiclite,
    Thanks. :)
    Hahahaha! It’s back! I missed this show, and this show pumped up the action with the extra addage of disturbed Romanian gothlolis. Thanks for blogging.
    What’s even more strange about the twins is how Gretel handels that BAR. Those machine guns have insane recoil. How she manages to hip fire it, continuously, is truly a wonder… their are a lot of marines who could never fire it for more than a few shots without completely losing control of it, much less hip firing it while standing.
    They certainly got the damage correct though. That weapon is a beast. 90% of the damage inclicted on the Bar was done by the BAR. Chang’s men and car got sluaghtered by a single, well aimed burst in Episode 14.
