The Lone Island Syndrome II (Ep X)

Not much Yuki. I’d already covered two of her best screencaps in my previous post on this episode and mentioned the differences with the novel in the reblog of Lone Island I.

Yuki watching Mikuru faint.

And then watching over her.

Kyon almost immediately speculates the Yuki was playing a joke on them (this was also in the novel) but from Yuki’s eureka expression above, I think she was just being her usual self and taking things too literally.

There’s been speculation that Yuki’s smiling behind the sub-titles but I’ve seen the raw and there’s none of that. The raw shot of that scene here - turning up her eyes to look at Kyon after he comments on how her expression never changes.

Personally I think an anime smile from Yuki would have ruined the unique appeal of her character as the silent, mysterious and stoic one. It would also undermine the comedic potential of the more ‘normal’ Yuki in The Disappearance novel.

LOL

Yuki the Omniscient

Yes, a reference to the addition of Stripey’s favourite loli-siscon element that wasn’t in this part of the novels. Had screencapped Yuki’s lovely lovely chequered orange and yellow top elsewhere.

By the way, I hoped you were able to catch the production error with the second viewing of this episode. It appears in that scene where we see Haruhi pacing (only we just see her legs)… If you pay attention, you’ll see that Haruhi’s right leg turns into her right leg as she paces a full circle. It’s incredibly hard to notice, and I was only able to catch it when one of my sharper-eyed friends pointed it out. >_>

I can’t believe you’ve been skipping over the _real_ highlight of this episode completely - the Haruhi-Kyon solo part >_

KyoAni is really going out of their way to show the Mikuru-Imouto liaison. Softening the ground for that explosive relevation “I’m your sister!!” or “I’m your grand-niece!!” in season 2?

I hate to attack such a so-outrageous-it-just-has-to-be-true theory, but I’m sure that the Bureau of Nonsensical Metachronologies has strict limits on interaction with your past self.

Mr. Stripey must be praying to KyoAni for his Mikuru-ran/Imotou-san connection. Sadly he is praying to the wrong group for his desired miracle. Since time travel is involved any sis-con is going to get temporal mechanics messey.

I wonder what Yuki-san thinks of Mikuru. When she fainted Yuki-san closed the door first then went to the comatose time-traveler. When she was watching over Mikuru was she simply observing or looking out for her in some other way like monitoring life signs?

I can’t help but wonder everytime I see this episode and the part where Yuki looks over Mikuru. I keep thinking that possibly something might have happened between them since they’ve already established before that Mikuru is scared of Yuki for some strange reason. Then again, Yuki was doing the watching, not Mikuru, and you can’t read her face, so I could be reading into too much here.
