Finance Directive (1/2006): Anime Figurine Purchases

Introduction

1. Watching anime often spawns other related, resource-hungry hobbies such as the purchasing of anime merchandise such as DVDs, artbooks and figurines. This directive codifies the hitherto unarticulated and informal decision-making procedures used by Zyl to regulate anime figurine purchases but does not cover the budgetary aspects directly. The main heuristics covered include no impulse buying, one character only, gatekeeping and no active seeking.

2. Assumptions of this directive are that: (a) Zyl is generally not interested in figurines of anime series that he has not watched or has watched and disliked intensely, regardless of how beautiful the figurine is; (b) Zyl is a character worshipper and is more likely to purchase characters to whom he has offered worship (in the form of dedicated screencaps and anime blog posts e.g. Lunamaria Hawke for GSD, Asa Shigure for SHUFFLE!, Yuki Nagato for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya etc).

Kamichu 12

I decided to pick up this series after it was mentioned by Omni but has Matthew has blogged it (there are still four DVD-only eps that weren’t covered though) and I don’t have a real character focus, I’m just going to go fanboy over one of the series’ supporting characters - the gorgeous and foxy Benten-sama.

Really beautiful design elements - the green hair, tail and foxy ears were unexpectedly cute and matched well with her abalaster skin, framed by her provocative white top (of almost lack of it) that floats behind her too in a traditional reference that is common in Chinese art as well. The long wide sleeves of black and orange match her bell-bottom trousers and miniskirt - the latter reveals just a peek of her upper thighs, making the outfit all the more sensuous. She’s barefoot - so that solves the eternal female problem of “What shoes should I wear with this?” Love her accessories as well - the multiple rings and ear-rings give her a grungey rocker chick feel while the latter are referential objects to the other members of her ‘band’ - the Seven Lucky gods.

The Lone Island Syndrome II (Ep X)

Not much Yuki. I’d already covered two of her best screencaps in my previous post on this episode and mentioned the differences with the novel in the reblog of Lone Island I.

Pani Poni Dash! 17

School cultural festival episode. Becky’s class, led by Rei, are out to make a big profit. Although she complains about the additional work that a festival generates, Becky quickly immerses herself in the activities and she’s in such a good mood that it soothes the class’ disappointment at not being able to keep the money they made.
