Reblogging this episode (previous post) to recapture the glory of Yuki in her summer school uniform and tracksuit. About 70 Yuki screenies ahead!
The biggest differences between the Kyon and Haruhi orders are that, in the latter we (now) fully aware of the extent of Yuki’s abilities and just how serious the consequences of Haruhi’s bad moods can be. It also becomes obvious why Haruhi dropped the idea of tying Mikuru’s hair into a ponytail when she saw Kyon looking. Although Haruhi’s melancholy has ended, she and Kyon are still trying to establish a greater mutual understanding which we see the beginnings of in the family restaurant scene at the end of this episode and which firms up by the Day of Sagitarius and Someday in the Rain.
Summer uniform wai wai! I liked how Yuki was always wearing her cardigan when in her winter uniform. It simply enhances her image as a frail girl hiding great strength. But the summer uniform, with its short sleeves, also bring out her fraility charm point - the utter smoothness and whiteness of her skin as well as the smallness of her limbs.
There are a few references to how Yuki and Mikuru are the same diminutive height but give completely different feelings to those who look upon them. However one of the things from the novels that I don’t think gets translated into the anime that well is how tall and athletically built Haruhi is - she uses her “freakish” strength to drag Kyon around the place but, aside from personality, Haruhi’s physique is another reason why like how “a rabbit will never defeat a snake” Mikuru will never defeat Haruhi.
I don’t really know very much about baseball and its rules so all the terms about positions and batting orders went right over my head. My ignorance doesn’t take about how funny this self-defence baseball catcher scene is though.
Kyon tries to get Yuki to evoke her deus ex machina. But given what we see in Lone Island, I think Haruhi’s weather control powers will rival Yuki’s. And probably Yurie-sama’s too. LOL

Just like how the world needs Bunny Girl Yuki, we also need Cheerleader Yuki!

Invoking the Nagato Defence Line. The screen that follows this is capped here and I actually prefer this one even though it’s Yuki’s back we’re seeing in the latter. The pose in that second scene was just so much stronger, belying her tiny frame which is shielding the much taller Kyon (albeit with him on his knees). Great scene transition as well.
Super utility player. This scene never fails to get a laugh out of me - not just because of her very stiff batting posture or how the Kamigara Pirates have their jaws on the ground but the very cute and leisurely way that Yuki “runs” her home run.

I agree with you about Haruhi’s strength- Tsuruya and Asakura (they of the lengthly hair) come off as physically superior, I think, even though, as you say, she’s supposed to be incredible, with her performance in the interclub track meet and all.
I especially like that line where Kyon is trying to convince himself that he could take Haruhi in a fistfight.
Yuki’s summer seifku and Fang-tan’s Pony tail make ever so tempted to divert a bunch of fully loaded C-5s, C-17s, and C-130s (its amazing how many vehicles you can stick in these things) to Japan and demand that second season this instant. I want to see Yuki running around more and floaty walk with summer seifku.
I like how Mikuru and Tsuruya were preping Yuki for battle with all that gear, I demand more Knightly Yuki and squire Fang-tan and Mikuru.
As moe as Yuki ate her meal, part of me was starting to hope that Fang-tan would lean in a bit closer. (I guess I have been reading your blog too long, you and your partner in crime)
Kyon fighting Haruhi? I guess Kyon is an advocate of full rights and equality for women…

Oddly enough, while Haruhi passes on putting a ponytail on Mikuru, she seems to ignore the fact that for most of the game Tsuruya was wearing a ponytail herself. I guess it’s because she sees Mikuru as competition for Kyon’s attention, while Tsuruya is more of an unknown factor (having only been introduced in this episode)?
Am I the only one who thinks:
1) Yuki’s Moeness goes through the roof in the 4th pic down,
2) She’ll become the most important out of the 3 “Secondary leads”
3) Fang-tan needs to join thee SOS

Ouran high school’s Haruhi and Suzumiya Melancholy’s Yuki made ms A cups seem much more appealing than ever.
It is funny how Yuki (as catcher) looks on to Haruhi and Kyon, like an adopted child seeking advice from her parent figures, on how to pass on the ball. Guess that’s part of her appeal as moe. ;)

Wontaek: Yuki is no less than Saint Nagato-chi as she is one of the few apsotles selected by our Benevolent Goddess on her SOS Brigade missions. In fact when you die and go to Haruhi Heaven you will be greeted by Nagato-chi in summer seifku as Heaven has mild weather. If you died righteous and faithful she will be in thigh highs and in Commodore regalia when you meet. Of course should you be chosen to enter Cloud Nine the whole Brigade will be there with Fang-tan, disarmed Asakura, and ENOZ in tow.
With the existence of Haruhi Heaven there is also Haruhi Hell where the only anime that will be shown is EVA with all Rei and Asuka scenes replaced by Kaoru in attire that is far too horrible to imagine. There is no fire and brimstone, nay no less than a hot tub with a nekkid corpse of Hideki Anno shall thine soul suffer for all eternity. In addition you will have to listen to him rant on about how much of genius he is and how HiMM is better than Suzumiya Haruhi after a random Tom Cruise rant about scientology. Should your sins be so great as to worship the false Prophet Anno then you shall spend and eternity watching Pokemon in dub…
Yuki is the Athena of the Haruhiist Pantheon, a goddess of Wisdom, Craft, and Victory whose knowledge and creative and destructive powers are without bounds. And unlike the original Athena, she actually lives up to the hype.
So basically Yuki is a demi-goddess of promised victory under greater god Haruhi, or am I still getting the details wrong?
I thought that Nike was the Goddess of Victory, Athena was Wisdom, Crafts, and Defensive Warfare. I guess a pagan pantheon works just as well.
