All this rolling around the floor and screaming my affection for Yuki is starting to hurt. Especially when you start crashing into the furniture and your throat goes hoarse. Latest attack of Yuki moé (or as tj_han86 puts it: those old feelings of Rei-love, except Yuki is arguably even better - a new, improved and higher evolved Rei) was due to listening to her character songs. [I found the word bubble on the booklet very Azumanga btw.]
Let’s start with the downsides. While I enjoyed Minori Chihara’s rendition of "Hare Hare Yukai", it wasn’t very moé as it felt rather too energetic and didn’t fit Yuki’s restrained air of understatement. But I liked "SELECT?" even though it was a Not Very Yuki lovey ballad. Major redeeming point was that it was oh so sweet and funny due to the incorporation of computer terms recalled Yuki’s communication with Kyon in MoHS IV and her programming prowess in Day of Sagitarius.

It’s definitely riddled with errors. Criticism and corrections will be greatly appreciated.
This lead track of "Yuki, Muon, Madobe Nite" (Snow, Silence, At the Window Side) was my favourite of the three. Right off the bat, the song had a fast techno-beat with a fast delivery of the lyrics but somehow it worked very well and is still very much a “Yuki” character song. The techno recalls the BGM during Yuki’s battle with Ryoko, the actual singing is still fairly poker-faced in comparison with "Hare Hare Yukai" and the sampling of some of Yuki’s “I am an alien-made humanoid interface” confession blended in beautifully, resonating with the abstractness of parts of the lyrics. Another successful example of this type of music/lyric combination in my book is the Kannazuki ED. KOTOKO’s "Agony" was very fast-paced but has the most romantic lyrics of longing and desire I’ve ever heard.
At the same time, the song also adds depth to her character as it shows Yuki also has deep thoughts and strong feelings that belie her relative lack of facial or vocal expression. It also shows that she oftens thinks as an individual and is concerned by some of the things that goes on around her. I loved how the title and lyrics opened (and ended) with a lyrical play on the homonym of “yuki” that refers to both her name (有希) and snow (雪), weaving them into a quite beautiful image. Furthermore the penultimate stanza alludes to snow ("the drop that is not water") to lead in the last two lines - the song comes full circle but also get a fleeting glimpse into Yuki’s loneliness and, implicitly, how much she must be enjoying her adventures with the SOS-Dan: something that is becoming clearer to me as I rewatch the series in the Haruhi / DVD release order: her swaying/floating walk when Kyon brought her to the library, not remaking her glasses, her “I won’t let them [harm you]” to Kyon, her “jiii~~~” stare that screamed “I *WANT* to win this game!!” in DoS, refusing to let Haruhi back into the room as well as vacuuming up the vegs in Lone Island and so on.

All this rolling around makes me ponder on the possibility of a video of Yuki-fans rolling on the floor screaming, “MOE!”

It just drives me crazy to await each new batch of translations for the fourth novel of SHaruhi in the Wiki-project. That particular novel is fairly Yuki-centric, although… not in the way we are used to viewing Yuki as.

Am I the only one here who DIDN’T like the Yuki version of Hare Hare Yukai? It just didn’t sound very much like Yuki to me, unlike the Haruhi and Mikuru versions… but I have to agree that the first song was the best on the character CD.
And yes, Yuki is like the New Rei - cute, poker-faced, very cold on the outside but with hints of other thoughts and emotions behind those rather deep eyes that nobody ever gets wind of, and with surprising talents. Plus, she’s horribly cute in the witch outfit. :D

There’s that problem of literal translation. For those who know chinese (or japanese), they can probably understand the lines. For decent english translation, u probably need to re-state the lines in a english structure such that it captures a similar context. The beauty of the context lies in the imagery i believe.
I’d much rather see videos of cute, petite female cosplayers doing Megane Yuki reading book, Baseball Yuki, Lone Island Watermelon Swimsuit Yuki, SOS Space Force Yuki, Witch Hat Yuki with Gibson SG Special than of fanboys rolling around the floor. ;) RAWR RAWR YUKI YUKI LOVE!

crimson, one of the biggest problems I had was the line arrangement. A few cases of the second half of a line being grammatically connected with the first half of the following line. Bit more messy to translate as English puts verbs between subject and object while Japanese often puts the verbs right at the end of sentences.
