Black Lagoon 11

The Lagoon company get a job from Zhang (å¼ ) to deliver a briefcase to an island but are chased all the way from their office by a small army. Revy and Rock reach the island but Rock (and the briefcase) are captured. Revy meets up with the getaway crew, which includes the fifth hot killer gal in the Black Lagoon universe - terrible accent though. We are shown that the briefcase’s contents are missing and the militia’s Japanese consultant terrorist, Takenaka, starts to interrogate Rock. 114 screencaps follow:

This was a lovely scene. The whole mess that is Revy’s room and the fanservice shots. But also how non-plussed Rock was to see her in that state (admittedly her normal clothes don’t leave much to the imagination either) as he entered to wake her - the company has just gotten a job; he casually brushed aside the rifle with her bra hanging on it; reaching across her prone body to open the shades and fishing out a morning ciggie for her so smoothly and nonchalantly. Particular favourite was how his tie tickled her face.

Plenty of blah-blah that I couldn’t follow - except that the United States ambassador and president’s life are at stake. I was particularly intrigued by how Revy addressed Zhang as “dan-na” (旦那) which has four connotations (1) master (2) husband (3) patron and (4) gentleman. At this point I’m going for the last one in a “dandy” sort of way due to his smart suit, scarf, sunglasses, good looks and personal vanity. Not sure what kind of connotations that “dan-na” has in the context of the Japanese underworld like other honorifics like anego or aniki.

Reminds me a lot of Chow Yun-Fat in God of Gamblers, right down to the two handed gunfights.

I always like it when Revy is shown to be less than a perfect killing machine - it adds more dimensions to her character and we’re reminded that while she’s very much the hardened criminal, she’s still got a long way to go especially with respect to her boss mode (pwned by Balalaika and Dutch), negotiation and management (Rock) and fighting (Roberta and Zhang).

Oh such gorgeous shoulders. I always feel guilty about slacking off my daily chin-up routine when I see these scenes of Revy.

Zhang’s changed the password.

Turns out that Rock’s conversation with Garcia was prophetic as well as his question to Revy whether she would save him if he got kidnapped. If he continues to get captured in the next series, he’ll be the Meg of Black Lagoon.

Loved this reloading with her mouth and cheek scene too. Heavily outgunned and she knows it - best defence is to keep moving and keep changing cover.

Her “oh shit” expression when she thought her back was exposed was priceless.

Matrix!

Another fast-paced, action-packed episode. Pity it’s the penultimate episode (according to ANN). Looking forward to the subs (more discussion when that’s released) and to next week’s conclusion.

GODDAMN!! I want to buy this series now. Pity it is so short but here’s hoping for more seasons.

Well well, Looks like Rock gets assigned to ‘Wake Revi Up’ detail in the mornings. XD I’m envious of Rock; Revi’s downright ‘kawaii’ when she wakes up in the mornings and she doesn’t seem to be in ‘beeyatch’ mode around him nearly as much as before.
Now, I wonder if Hotel Moscow will pull out all the stops to get Rock back or what. Or will this be a one-woman suicide run?

    Kawaii is not a word I’d ever use to describe Revy, morning blurness or not. -_-;;

  4. 4 Arakan7

So what would you use to describe her there? ^^

  5. 5 Skane

    “Has issues”

  6. 6 Zyl

Right on the money, Skane. LOL

I’d have used “Sexy in a kinda psycho way”… which probably explains the attraction that a certain someone has for Suigintou, besides her meido-like outfit…

I just couldn’t stop grinning. Revy really shines in this episode, she made tons of great different faces and I believe the animators drew her a little nicer than before. If Black Lagoon has only 13 episodes, this might be a good example why shorter is better. Every episode of it seems be even more amusing than the one before. It was just too funny when she screamed RRrrrrr PPPeeeee GGGGGeeee in super slow mo’ and jumped straight across the room especially because RPG hardly caused any damage despite the heavy explosion.

And yes, the first scene was odd in a funny way. If I remember correctly, in the manga Rock was not that sober and even a little embarrassed. I think they changed that scene for the better but I’d have check to be certain.

From the occassional scan floating around, the manga looks visually gorgeous too.

This series has been a real surprise pleasure - when it started, I was just in it for the guns and the chicks but then found that the characters have a surprising depth to them.

! counted like…15 episodes on the official website, don’T worry. Unless they find it to be totally crappy back there in japan, they’ll do it up to 15.
    ^^

I guess you counted the TV stations on the schedule page? The story page shows exactly 12 episodes, so at least for this season, that’s all:

Woooo! Fansubs are out and with this kind of episode, one only needs to do one thing!

*cue cries of “AWESOME!”, “COOL!”, “RADICAL!”, “ALRIGHT!”, “YEAH!”, “BRING IT ON!”, etc…*

Being mostly action and more action, a point form entry on things of interest in the eleventh episode of Black Lagoon.

..) Revy has a movie poster of “The Wild Punch” on the wall of her room. This is cool on many levels, because it is a homage to “The Wild Bunch”, an ultraviolent Western that was poetic in its’ deathscenes, and deathscenes galore it had. It was also a movie from the ‘Bad Guys’ point of view. ;)

..) The crushing of the Bulgarian’s eyeball using a egg-smasher. Ick.

..) Chan is wicked Cool, bold for emphasis. But yeah, his character design is very Chow Yan Fatt-ish, not that it really matters, it is still wicked Cool. Ah the days when Hong Kong movies had genuinely stylish fight scenes… compared to a lot of the CGI crap these days. A lot of the action stars of old had real Martial Arts training.

..) Character Shield raises its’ ugly head again when Revy somehow manages to avoid getting hit by bullets at POINT-BLANK RANGE by the fake contact. WOW, and I thought the drunk Neo-Nazis and the Columbian Mafia were lousy shooters.

..) It was odd to hear Shenhua explain that her English is not good because she is from Taiwan when… well… they are all talking in Japanese. ^_^;; I understand that in the source material, Revy actually speaks English, but for the anime, they changed it to Japanese. Still… very surreal moment. Shenhua’s accent actually sounds good to me, by the way. :)

    Cheers.

Revy is too hot, I don’t care what anyone says.

Yeah, she doesn’t sound at ALL like a native Japanese speaker… which I suppose gets the point across to the audience that Shenhua is NOT a native speaker of the language that Revy’s using. Her Japanese sounds very… well, Chinese; the accents are very much in line with the Mandarin accents I’m familiar with from Taiwan, and not at all like the flatter and more glottal noises of mainland Chinese.

Color me impressed - especially since Revy apparently DID want to get Rock out of there, and lied very well about him having the papers. :D I just wonder how she kept them in place without having them fall while she was running around…

Thanks for your very nice pics.
I stumbled over this anime series while perusing utube, and it is very entertaining.
The characters are very appealing, very well drawn, and my only gripe is that they cannot handle their firearms properly. They need to keep their fingers out of the trigger guard, and Revy’s choice of the 92F is rather strange because it is not really a girl’s gun unless you well over 5ft 8″ and have long fingers.
I am 5ft 8′ and I find it hard to put my trigger finger joint on the trigger of a standard 92F.
The best gun for a person of around 5ft 6′ is the 1911-AI, even a small hand can get to the trigger easily, and the pullback is very short.
Also the 92F has a nasty habit of decocking back into DA(double action)once you push the safety up with your thumb, making your next trigger pull long and tough.
Although the berreta is higher finish quality, I would recommend the taurus version of the 92F, because they have a different safety/decocker that allows you to put the gun on safe without decococking it from SA back into DA.
Apart from that the 92F is OK, just a bit oversize for a 9mm luger, reliable because of the open-top slide(no stovepipe jams), but definitely not suited to Revy.
I like the character of Rock, he is the stereotype blur japanese boy, entranced by all the weird characters around him, but kinda cutely drawn. Hopefully he will take a more active role in the series instead of just having to be rescued by his dreamgirl, Revy.
The other characters are all so well parodied that I laugh everytime I see them. I guess they represent how the japanese see the rest of the world.
It’s a great series and I hope to continue watching it.
