A great ending with plenty of emotional impact, nice animation and music. But overall, I have similar complaints as Tsukihime - by concentrating on one scenario from the game, it failed to exploit the full richness of the franchise. The lack of material also made itself felt in the turgid pacing in some parts of the series and may have worked better as a 13-14 episode series instead. As a business decision, I’m not sure that it was entirely wise either - while I’m sure they’re rakin’ in it with the Saber merchandising, there will probably be a lot of fans of Rin, Archer, Rider etc. who are hugely pissed off (perhaps explaining the cool reception to the limited edition DVD Vol.1?). In any case, I’m just thanking the anime kami that the ending wasn’t botched *coughGSDcough*

Taiga-nee goodness!

I spoilt the mood a bit for myself but I just couldn’t stop
laughing when I saw Saber’s ahoge billowing in the wind.
In any case, Saber’s farewell to Shirou was suitably poignant. Both of them have achieved a complete understanding of the other and through losing each other, show how they have managed to share their love even for just a while. Saber’s passing was also very sad yet fitting. I loved how several ideas were mixed: Avalon - the utopia that comes after the death of the king which was what Shirou finally to manifest in full; waking up from a dream and then returning to that dream; death as the continuation of the dream. The wind that blew through legend and the ages, linking the members of the cast, also reminded me of the romantic notion of the ending of Voices of a Distant Star : lovers separated by both the vastness of space and the dilation of time but were united by their love.
noooooooo oooooooooo oooooooooooo, my saber~~~~chan~~~~~
What of shirou? Only saber’s dreams get to continue forever?
Perhaps shirou has the consolation prizes of sakura and illya?
Havent watched it yet though i roughly know the whole concept including the alternate scenarios.
While I was disppointed in a few aspects of the series (namely the fight scenes which could have been more exciting and some story issues, mainly with the Caster arc and Sakura and Taiga simply disappearing after it) I felt it was a good series overall.
Now I’m just hoping Kyoto Animation decides to do a remake in a few years and does one of the other arcs. Just imagine seeing the fights (particularly Archer/Shirou’s UBW attack) with the kind of animation episode 10 of Haruhi Suzumiya got.
Little to comment about F/SN, other than the fact that I am very glad that Ilya got to live. :)
I’m more disappointed by the strict following of the Fate storyline (for the most part) than anything, regarding the series…. and wish they’d given Taiga-nee, Rin, and Sakura a bit more airtime. Mind you, watching Taiga-nee and Ilya abusing one another (one’s a child in an adult’s body, the other’s pretty much an adult in a child’s form) is precious. :D
Now if only the pacing hadn’t been so off, and they’d been a little more original with the storyline….
What kind of fucking bullshit ending was that? Don’t anime series have a happy ending anymore? wtf is up with the stupid controversial endings FLKSFJDSG*&SD^(G*&SD(*^(&*(*&* I’m mad as hell, none of the characters were fully accomplished in my point of view.
I kinda agree that love is supposed to be selfish. Anytime less = compassion. Shirou should have forced Saber to stay in his world somehow and made her as one of his elite maids. Perhaps, Shirou shared my view but was just powerless to bring that into effect afterall? Saber did go poof almost the instant the mission was completed.
Well, that was supposed to be the better ending. People from different timelines (i think?) cant really stay together for long and it was kinda mutual.
Think of it..as a noble ending.
Realise that Saber wasnt dead (if you follow the gameplot) in her existance yet when she became a servant. So being a servant was actually an (extraordinary?) experience for her perceptions as what she calls…a dream that seems inspiring. I guess its the dream that allows her to end her life’s tale in a more ‘peaceful’ n enlightened manner.
I think it was a decent ending, but what i would wonder what will become of the characters.
