Strawberry Panic 5

With this episode, Yaya-chan has been firmly established as my favourite character of this series and I’ll be applying my character-specific blogging SOP henceforth for this series. I still don’t really understand what she sees in Hikari but I really like the cat-and-dog tension between Yaya and Tsubomi. Especially since Tsubomi is quickly turning up as runner-up in my character favourite stakes. She flips between bossy and loud to shy and embarrassed, it’s just so fun to see her terrorising her seniors and then having the tables turned on her so easily when Yaya teases her or when Hikari is just being Hikari to her. Next to this trio, the Nagisa-Tamao-Chiyo axis just seems rather boring.

Absolutely fabulous scene. Love the Evil Yaya Arched Eyebrows too.

The Eleventh Commandment: Thou Shalt Not Get Caught.

Doh.

And speaking of which, there can only be one real “Chiyo” - the simpering one in this series is simply pathetic - and I still think of Kareha’s sister when I hear the name Tsubomi.

Yaya is fun, but I am eagerly anticipating Tamao’s breakdown. :)

    To mangle a MegaTokyo mantra,

IMHO Yaya is much more likely to have a Chikane-style reppressed lesbian angst breakdown than Tamao - whose behaviour reminds me more of Tomoyo in CCS. But you’re right - it’s always the quiet ones!

Just watched the fansub for Ep07.

    Hoooo-boy.

The beginning of the episode nearly killed me, in a good way. I nearly died from lung implosion due to uncontrollable laughter. Listening to all the girls talk about love made me realise one thing.

There ain’t no Y chromosome in SPanic. It’s all Xs baby. Xxxx…

Which led to another thought… what on Earth was the criteria for entering these schools anyway? Please mark X if you are a Lesbian? If you ain’t a carpet muncher, you can’t be a student here? The characters talk about lesbian love so freely, so… normally. Maybe some catalysmic event occured and wiped out ALL the males on the planet. Or something. It just seems so lurid when you put some thought into it, which was probably a mistake in the first place, since I ain’t exactly watching SPanic for further intellectual development.

A linky to a screenie of what is my favourite scene of Ep07. It ain’t spoiler material, just kawaii.

Spoilers ahead, in case the spoiler tag fails to kick in▼ Show

Character art once again suffered a butchering in SPanic. I feel really sad for these girls. Their faces were soooo flat in most scenes, and when random faces start looking better than the main character’s, you know you got a big problem here.

I mean, seriously… when you see them from the front, they range from okay to beautiful. When you look at them from the sides though… oh man… what did they do to deserve this? :P

    Cheers.

As awesome as Yaya is (and she is quite awesome) my heart and soul is owned by Chikaru-chan.

    Youteidoori!

With all the hoohah over the FMP! references in SHaruhi Ep07, something suddenly crossed my mind.

    Full - Me - tal - Panic!
    Straw - ber - ry - Panic!

I am now hoping for crossover fanart… which will probably never happen… Hmm… Tessa as a Lilim student… Chidori as a… erm… Miator student? Although Sagara is a male, let’s just toss him into Miator for fun, and just to see him in Miator’s uniform. Come on… now that I have mentioned it, you want to too, right? ;P

On the flip side, imagine the SPanic girls toting guns. Shigusa can be the reluctant Arbalest pilot, with the Spica school council as Vemon pilots. :P

Yeah, the premise is silly, but silly can be fun too. :P

On a more related note, I moan the lack of a “Your Favourite SPanic Girl” poll anywhere.

    Heh.

I can’t say I thought episode five of Strawberry Panic was that great, the Yaya and Tsubomi scene was undoubtedly the best part though. Episode seven was certainly the best episode of the show, the show is never going to be deep or complicated but it manages to be very entertaining some weeks. Amane tops my favourite characters after the seven aired episode, with Yaya (who has the most potential as a character I feel) coming in a close second. Yaya could pull ahead once she enters the obviously upcoming Chikane angst mode. Can’t say I think the whole Shizuma x Nagisa story is at all interesting when compared to the Spica drama just now.
