Fate/Stay Night 19

The facial animation for Saber and Assassin was quite crappy at the start and when Caster went O: after getting stabbed by Goldie’s rain of swords (and she also didn’t look half as cute as in the Fate Hollow Ataraxia art) but no real complaints as the plot looks like its wrapping up nicely with the appearance of the final Servant. After Saber’s moé shyness in the bathtub, it’s Shirou’s turn to show the unconsciousness love-love by repeatedly expressing his desire for Saber to stay with him after the end of the Grail war.

On a side note, click on above image for a fuller view. But I have no idea how to adjust the contrast/levels so as to make it more even. Any Photoshop advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oooh yeah, just luurve the way Rin cradles Sakura.

Rin x Sakura sequence from the OP.

The opportunity has passed but still… RIN X SABER 4TW!

Shirou: Sorry about Rin dumping you for Sakura.
Saber: I never suspected that Rin had siscon…

Saber: Well, maybe I can still join her harem…

Shirou: I’ll get my mojo back! You can join *my* harem.

Saber: Sigh… you’ve been promising that for ages…

Saber: I can’t wait anymore.

~Gurugu mawaru~

Saber: Spike Spiegel… now that man had mojo.

Shirou: Oh I so love Faye cosplay!

Also realized that I haven’t capped this Taiga sequence from the OP yet.
Zyl needs more Taiga-nee!!

We need more about SHirou x Saber…

I already said this but… maybe after the changes in the storyline, we could have a happy ending… tabuu

Oh man… I am pretty conflicted over this episode. Caster is among my top favourite characters from F/SN( apart from Ilya), and I had been eagerly awaiting her appearance since Ep01. I knew the possibility of her surviving this war was pretty much nil, but to have her die in such a manner is… to me… lame…

    :(

I was like… “That’s it?! You bastards tease us with shots of her spying and then only give her 2-3 episodes worth of screentime?! NOOOO!” Flaming geckos on a scratching stick! They could have at least explain her background a bit more… Caster’s background is one of the most tragic around. Compared to Emo Saber, Caster’s mental strength is considerably better, nay, infinitely better! Not to mention the relationship between her and Shirou’s teacher.

    SO. MUCH. STORY. POTENTIAL. WASTED.
    URGH.

Blimey HELL! I’m a dissatisfied viewer now.

My sole consolation lies in the fact that Ilya is still around… if however… they choose to bump HER off as well, I shall write off F/SN for good. My angst meter can only take so much.

    Sigh… :(

But if they use Iliya like the gamne, I think you should be prepared to suffer.

What’s wrong with the storytelling of her background? Caster’s story was told very nicely, in a fairly touching way…

  5. 5 Skane

I prefer a character’s background to be explained naturally, over a period of time, rather than dumped onto the viewer in record time just to make it before her untimely demise. Just as with Rider, they only gave the viewers obscure hints on the Servant’s identity.

We are talking about a mainstream audience here, not students from a Greek Mythology Degree. Without going into further details about the legends behind the identities of Rider and Caster, the audience will not get a better understanding of their plight, and will be unable to fully appreciate their tragedies.

Heck, they left out the reason why Caster killed her former master… making her out to be more ruthless than she really is. :( They also had a golden opportunity to show why Shirou’s teacher agreed to be Caster’s master, but as it is, he’s dead, and dead men tell no tales.

I am not saying that it was a total loss. What I am saying is that they WASTED a lot of story goodness. They could have made F/SN better. The end of the Caster arc just feels so… anti-climatic after all the initial buildup.

    Ook.

Zyl: Thar be Kiritsugu, not Saber.

Also, I wished they did the HF arc, with Caster’s death scene from UBW. Now that’ll be PERFECT. Now THAT’S emotional.

Nasu’s saying, “PLAY THE FUCKING GAME BITCHES.” to the fans. Goddamned Lucas moment.

Say, who’s with me to petition for TYPE-MOON to actually do Hazakuda Romantic?

I was hoping Caster’s background would actually be explained. Instead they just toss us some flashbacks that only vaguely hints or summarizes at what has happened. And I say “boo” for the lack of Black/Evil Sakura. I really wanted so see that.

And Caster sure looks cute after she lost the hood. The pointy ears were cute (although odd; why does she have pointy ears? I guess that’s something from her backstory that they didn’t feel like showing).

I hope the rest of the show is more like the Rider and Beserker arcs rather than the Caster arc.

Skane, Caster is Medea. There really isn’t much more then that. Considering the time constraint the show is in. I thought they gave her story enough material.

PS> If anyone doesn’t know who Medea is, then you can only blame your school district for not adding one of the great Greek Tragedy into English Liturature Class.

  9. 9 Skane

I know Caster’s identity, which was why I was unhappy that they chose not to expand on her history( hence my mention of the ignorance of the mainstream audience). The whirlwind of betrayals that surround her existence. Not to mention the seemingly cop-out kill that Gilgamesh had over Caster… First thought that came to my mind, “That’s it?!?!”

    SO. MUCH. MORE. @_@

I mean… they didn’t have time for Caster’s background story, but they do for Shirou’s outing with Saber? Hot damn. The ‘date’ episode better be of such calibre that it blows my mind away.

Really…you should just look up Medea’s backstory, its not fundamentally different in the Type-Moon version of the story.

    Unlike some like say…Rider.

  11. 11 Xellos-_^

Rider is the only Servant whose background story got shafted. If you know who Medea is there really isn’t much more that needed to be said.

  12. 12 Fencedude

Well, as far as I know, Rider’s background was only really covered in Hollow Ataraxia, so its not like it was meant to be included here anyway.

In Photoshop, you go to the image menu, you should see “adjust” command…go to adjust and then, go to brightness/contrast and just adjust the values there to set the contrast and bright of the image…of course, there are other commands in there that can help, like autolevels, curves, hue/saturation, etc…
just play with those, but if you only want to adjust the bright and contrast, you will find those in there.

  14. 14 Zyl

Toonleap, many thanks. Brightness and contrast adjustment didn’t seem to be able to get the separate parts to blend but I’ll fiddle around with the other features.

Hmm… I’m more bothered by what was said near the end…

Now, they give a chance for a Servant to stay? I can imagine two different endings for the anime with that fact… And I PRAY it won’t be the same one as in the game…
