The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 6

Despite the whole Haruhi being jealous of Kyon x Mikuru thing, I can’t help but think of the SOS-Dan as Haruhi’s super fun bisexual harem. Perhaps it’s something to do with my frustration that Rin Tohsaka didn’t get to wrest all of the girls, especially Saber, out of Shirou’s grip.

hegemony A term especially associated with Gramsci Haruhi, to whom it denotes the concealed domination of all the positions of institutional power and influence by just one class one girl [often used to explain why a dominated class do not revolt against a system that is against their material interests]. Apologies to Simon Blackburn.

I can’t help imagining that one fine day, Kyon will walk into the SOS-Dan club room to the scene of Mikuru bent over one of the desks, her skirt up and her knickers between the ankles, pressed down by Haruhi who is merrily ass-raping her with a strap-on. Yuki will, of course, be reading a book in the corner as if nothing is happening.

Although she hardly got any lines this time, after the bout of verbal diarrhoea in the previous episode, this scene really cracked me up.

All these Yuki scenes were great as well. Surprisingly, her mystery girl moé has also gotten to me. Perhaps that’s one of this series’ strengths. It features such stereotypical anime characters but the cleverness of KyoAni’s execution has made me rediscover why I originally enjoyed characters of these often-abused archetypes. The key of that cleverness is Kyon’s sarcastic commentary which could be, almost word-for-word, the stream-of-conscious critiquing of a bitterly jaded anime fan. This is then backed up by utterly gorgeous production values, painstaking attention to detail, easter eggs, a solid voice acting cast and an incredibly catchy ED and dance sequence.

Besides the “Portable Loli” scene( and I am pleasantly surprised that you are the first I have seen not to include it), the true highlight of this episode for me was Yuki. Of course… ever since the Baseball episode, I have been a confirmed Yuki fan( so what if I am the only one that votes for Yuki in popularity polls…).

However, the top highlight of this episode to me was Kyon’s desperate chanting of, “Please don’t let anything happen. Please don’t let anything happen.”

It really got me rolling. ^o^

    Cheers.

re: portable loli, the one in the ‘hontou ni…’ gang who raves about cute little sisters is Stripey. ;)

Oooh yeah, Kyon’s chant was hilarous.
