While it’s not like Magikano where fans started coming out of the closet after Ender’s bold declaration of fandom, I’m feeling pretty chuffed that animeblogging legend Jeff Lawson also enjoys this series for its stupid funniness.

It’s the sports festival and it was great to see how the girls entrap Odagiri into promising treats. The Yakiniku prize just reminded me too much of Azumanga though as did the rivalry between Mari Siaonji (a weird cross between Eri and Tomari) and Kouda. It’s natural for people to compare this series against the Gold Standard of High School Girls Comedy so I thought it might have been better for the series to concentrate on the aspects that make it different e.g. how the girls all do dumb things - but that it is perfectly understandable at that stage in life - which, for me, is the real charm of this series and much more successfully portrayed in the manga.

Yuma also attacked Ayano and her boyfriend twice in the previous episode just as the pair were getting lovey-dovey. I do hope the Yuma x Ayano aspect gets brought over from the manga as it creates quite a few moments of humour.

The ambiguously gay pair appear at last! Reminded me a bit of Chie x Aoi though. Eriko’s characterisation of them as a Takarazuka act was great but I still prefer their extended introduction in the manga about how every girls’ high school will have “pair cliques” and “best friend” groups of two behave like lovers. And the fun in the manga comes mainly from how Mouri and Koshiba are aware of it and play to it without actually confirming anything.

This pretty much sums up the series and its six leads - The High School Girls Morons Group. LOL Also liking the ED more and more. I remembered how much I was looking forward to KOTOKO’s Agony after suffering through Kannazuki Ep 2-7.
