There were so many things against this series, going by my book. Clichéd plot - ordinary guy gets caught up in extraordinary events that changes his life and outlook. Pastiche of a main character that, from the OP, is clearly expected to carry the series - Levy being a pirate (One Piece?), hot chick with weapons (GITS?), custom handguns (Hellsing?) with Mr T wearing Batou range of designer eyewear and Kururu in a Hawaiian shirt riding shotgun. But I still really enjoyed these two episodes and both female characters thusfar have been so hot.
Even though I still think of Levy, with her mercurial temper and
love of weaponry, as Giroro and Natsumi’s love child…

She’s still charismatic in a way that appeals to me in a way that I haven’t
been able recognize in Real Mayer of Ergo Proxy even after five episodes.
Maybe because it’s Megumi Toyoguchi? ;)

Of course, besides the requisite good looks, cool weapons
handling and craziness, it helps that she drinks like a fish.

The initially irritating self-insert character also actually became quite likeable when his hackles were raised (first by Levy at the bar and then against the helicopter gunship). His declaration to Kageyama that he was already dead and that his name was Rock was also quite cool. Little wonder that Balalaika offered him a Russian Mafia “get out of jail free” card. Speaking of whom…

Hmm… looks like Soviet Army Captain epaulettes…
No idea about the formation in the flash badge though.

Seems that Talia Gladys didn’t go down with Gil and Rey on the Messiah after all even if she apparently has the scars to show for it. Thought that voice sounded familiar. :P Probably the hottest bad-ass scarred anime woman I’ve seen so far.
Hope the series will keep up its vibe.
I hope it keeps up the vibe, too. There is just something about a girl wearing cut-off shorts w/ the fly open (5th picture down) I find both crude and sexy at the same time. As cliche as it is, it’s still far more entertaining that most other shows this season.

That’s wrong it should be:
Seems that Kycilia Zabi survived a bazooka to the face curtesy of Char Aznable after all even if she apparently has the scars to show for it. Thought that voice sounded familiar. :P Probably the hottest bad-ass scarred anime woman I’ve seen so far.
BTW, just saw the first episode my self, and it really rocks!!!!!
robin: *Busy staring at the cut-off denims*
grss1982: Come to think of it, I only have a vague memory of what Kycilia Zabi sounded like. And that was probably via a Chinese dub too. (;^_^)
Hmm…
Just rewatched episode one and I gotta say taht the gunfight in the bar with “Two Hands†going nuts (and an insane smile on her face) really hooked me to this anime.
Howeevr, at first when I read the premise about this anime about a “girl with guns,†I was a bit apprehensive in wathcing it, since I assumed this was gonna be chuck full of unecessary fanservice.
I’m glad to watch though that the the lead character with guns does’nt reload her weapon using her rack.
From the look of it, Balalika was a captain in the Soviet Army Paratroopers. While both the epaulette and chevron are simplified, the epaulette is a captains rank, and the chevron looks like one I’ve seen for the paratroopers, that “fat exclaiamation point” on it is an elongated parachute.
She appears to have been a captain in Spetsnaz, from what we saw in the flashbacks in Second Barrage.
