MariMite 5

The Yellow Rose Revolution continues to grip the school but family head honcho Rosa Foetida (Eriko) does not seem to be in the state to set things right. At Yoshino’s request, Yumi plays go-between for her and Rei. With Yumi’s mediation, Rei is able to understand Yoshino’s feelings a bit more and win the kendo tournament. She visits Yoshino at the hospital - the latter’s operation to correct her heart defect was successful - and they have a fresh start. Yoshino asks to be made Rei’s soeur again, receiving the rosary in Maria-sama’s grove. All is peaceful in the school again as a boom in souer reconciliations take place.

More Sei-Yumi hijinks. Yumi fails to realize why Sei lavishes so much attention on her - besides being fun, Yumi keeps it so real that Sei finds her refreshing (though she only explains this explicitly to Yumi in Haru Ep 4. Sachiko was spot-on that Sei enjoys it even more because Yumi struggles but I think if Yumi doesn’t struggle, then it would also be against her nature.

Of all the Yamayurikai members, Rei and Yoshino’s real characters are probably the most at odds with their reputations and image.

More hilarous Yumi expressions. The corollory of this though, for me, is that Sei loves to talk about how much she enjoys Yumi’s presence and company to the other Yamayurikai members.

Turns out that Eriko had a toothache. Gah. I’m not really that keen to talk about Rei x Yoshino dynamics even if they are quite interesting because just thinking about them makes me feel lethargic.

I guess the major appeal of the Rei/Yoshino pairing is that it’s so completely turned upside down when it comes between expectation and upside-down. It will develop some more in quite an interesting way in MariMite Haru.
