Fate/Stay Night 11

What a prick! If Shirou hadn’t woken up his idea and didn’t do what he did, I think I might have come within two inches of dropping the series in disgust since it’s hard to enjoy a series when you utterly detest the main character. It is thus with great relief that the series seems to have gotten out of its rut. The pace has picked up and Shirou is not so useless or pigheaded anymore.

SHINJI! OMAE O KOROSU!!
Cruelty to Taiga-nee is unforgivable!!!

[Rin just looks so... dashing. She really should have her own harem.]

[I just get this happy spine-tingly thing whenever Rin says: "へ~~~~~~~" (;^_^)]

(mouseovers for Shirou x Saber x Rin’s Excellent Evangelion Cosplay Adventure)
[edit: Well, actually jason came up with the Saber-Rei comparison first.]

The fighting was ok I suppose but what I truly delighted in were Rin’s antics. I’m not so happy about how the series seems to be moving towards Shirou x Saber but it was quite sweet to watch and a real relief that Master and Servant have finally come to an understanding. (Goes back to x100 maki-maki for Shinji Matou)

I think the thing that saved this episode is that Shirou, even if he’s somewhat selfish… actually did more than sit on his ass this time, and didn’t just wait to die. This time, he went off and fought as an ‘ally of justice’ - yes, it took Taiga being threatened to get him to treat this seriously, rather than Shinji playing some sort of weird hostage game… but he did it. The fact that he at least convinced Shinji that he was willing to kill him gave him a few points back, in my eyes, by showing he’s taking this semi-seriously. That, and the way he said that his father told him that he had to be ready to kill a Magician should he ever get into a fight with one…well, that did the trick. Between that and his apology to Saber, I’m starting to think he’s capable of learning, even if they wasted 10 eps (almost half the series) getting here.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That was a bloddy great captioning thing you’ve done there, Zyl. Now that you’ve spotted it out, the 3 main leads of F/SN does really resemble the EVA trio. Asuka Rin for the win!!!!

Haesslich - sometimes it’s ironic that I complained that Tsukihime didn’t develop the plot or characters enough and now I find myself complaining that F/SN is slow. A lot of time just feels being wasted - there’s no economy of effort in developing plot or characters it seems. Now that things are looking up, I feel I’ve been too harsh but I also still blame the curtain raiser for creating the wrong expectations.

Kurogane - Glad you enjoyed that. :) I’ll be even happier if Mentar sprays his monitor with a soft drink again. *evil laugh*

Well, Zyl, they only had 12-13 eps for Tsukihime… and in the end, crammed a lot of crap into the first half, then left things a little unexplained in the last half, which made for a somewhat unsatisfying viewing experience… on top of completely removing the Killer Shiki Tohno Mode which made the character such an interesting one in the game; he was nice… but when you pushed him too far, the glasses (and gloves) came off and he became the ruthless demon-killing machine he was trained to be. AT least this time they’re giving the series a proper amount of episodes to work out the storyline with… even if they wasted 10 eps getting to the point where Shirou was more than just a dead anchor for the series. At least this time he summoned Saber, and earned her respect with both his stubbornness… and the fact that he acted as a hero of justice; he didn’t waffle, he fought decently, and he actually ran the battle like he meant to win it, rather than as a reluctant participant who didn’t want anything to do with the Holy Grail War. If he’d just killed Shinji instead of threatening him, Rider at least would’ve been removed from the battle for a few seconds… maybe. OF course, that’d probably have gotten Rider to try to kill him as well, but hey.

Still, you can’t blame Curtain Raiser completely - the fact of the matter is that Shirou spent most of the first third of the series acting as an albatross - he wasn’t entertaining to watch, and was actively annoying. Every other Harem Lead, in comparison to him, seems more action-oriented or at least possessing of a backbone. At least here he showed he was willing to stand up for his ideals… which is more than I could credit him for back in Ep 9.

I utterly agree with you. Shirou is seriously pathetic in the anime. It’s like he can’t do peanuts to save is nuts. The best part has to be “You’re a girl and how can you do this to a girl bla bla bla” I enjoy your blog +) dont mind me leaving one or 2 comments =D.

Haesslich - And at least Shirou doesn’t have a whiny irritating voice.

Pawnstar - Tks. I’m a total comment whore so not only do I not mind, I am positively pleased! (;^_^)
