Yasuna proposes the Love Alliance (cf Onegai Twins) to Tomari - maintain the status quo so as to not hurt Hazumu by forcing her to choose between them. On this basis, Tomari says that she trusts Yasuna to maintain the alliance when she gets to go a date with Hazumu to Sea World. True to her word, Yasuna restrains herself despite the romantic atmosphere of the undersea tunnel of luurve. Big misunderstanding arises when Tomari thought she saw Yasuna and Hazumu kissing (while waiting for her to come get her souvenir at the train station near Tomari’s training area). During a late night walk, Tomari tells Hazumu about her feelings and they kiss. However Yasuna sees them and activates her Valkyrie GEM to flatten Tomari with the Dance of Valhalla.
I’m finding Hazumu’s mom more and more likeable as the series progresses.

Since the fireflies were already there, maybe Tomari should have first offered Hazumu a bellflower with a firefly inside a la Suzuka. Yamato may be a dumb ass and Suzuka a confused ice queen but that was one of the most romantic scenes in recent anime.

I can’t help but feel annoyed at Hazumu because she gives away kisses after hearing sob stories. Gah. And instead of the status quo freeze, perhaps they should have negotiated a more ambitious love alliance along the lines of a yuri harem e.g.Iono the Fanatics. This whole mess had me applying strategic studies concepts, like security dilemmas, threat (mis)perception, peacemaking, peacekeeping and confidence-building measures, to the three girls for a while. (;^_^) The misunderstanding could have been really easily cleared up but now Tomari has, at last, crossed the Rubicon. With two episodes left and having radically departed from the manga, I’m fairly optimistic for the ending i.e. Hazumu does not turn back into a boy, makes a decision about her suitors - wanting to keep both of them is also a decision! LOL

Even if Tomari and Hazumu end up togehter, I still think that Hazumu anf Yasuna would’ve made a better couple with Tomari staying in the best friend department and STRAIGHT.

Atleast if Tomari and Hazumu ended up together in the manga, that would be a little better to swallow(Just a little) since Yasuna was a little possesive but she was good in the anime damnit. Good.
I really will. When Hazumu was a guy, he never had those feelings towards Tomari. Now I wish he was a guy but that would mean Yasuna wouldn’t be able to return the feelings.

I can see why you’re crying bitter tears because of the way Hazumu looked at Tomari and actually leaned into the kiss. I’m more of the opinion that Yasuna lost her chance with Hazumu right from the start by rejecting her while she was still a he and that now that Tomari has come to terms with her feelings, more power to her. She’s a good constrast to Asuta who developed pervy feelings for Hazumu *because* on his former best friend’s change of physique while Tomari has decided to love Hazumu *despite* the little accident. Which is why some people don’t really consider this series to be yuri at all. And while I don’t dislike Yasuna or object to a Yasuna x Hazumu pairing in principle, the lame ‘Can’t See Males’ condition was a big minus for her in my book.
Manga Vol.3 seems to have lost its way and is employing a really crappy plot device. (Pls use spoiler tags if anyone wants to discuss it.) I just hope the anime ending can avoid the super cop-out of Hazumu becoming male again (and Yasuna being ‘cured’ by the aliens).
And BTW childhood friends don’t always get the guy. Asa Shigure >> Kaede Fuyou. Nyahahaha!!!

To me, it seemed that Asa was like the long term friend than Kaede.
Kaede seemed the “Oniichan” type of person.
I can see where you’re coming from but there are numerous references to Kaede and Rin’s relationship being that of childhood friendship. Also the ‘oniichan’ love-love role in SHUFFLE! seems to be assigned to Primula.
Also Asa and Rin may act like old friends but their relationship is also relatively recent - from latter middle school which makes it only 2-4 years. In fact, my reading of anime was that Asa and Rin were romantically attracted to each other from the start but Kaede cock-blocked by evoking her implicit threat of ‘I live only to serve Rin.’
