I owe much to Jason for influencing me to watch this anime. First volume of the manga is also on order from Amazon as well. This series has got lots of little touches that make it really enjoyable e.g. the “Sunset” on the shopping cart in the OP sequence showing that SUNRISE can make fun of itself; the numerous Gundam in-jokes; the “Sub-title de arimasu” and “Eyecatch” scene transitions; the catchy first OP “Kero! to march” which has a great marching beat and I’ve been singing to myself when I walk to campus - though I think I startled a Japanese girl at a traffic junction when I sang “カレーのライスを炊き忘れ~~!!” a bit too loudly. (;^_^)

The first episode introduces the star of the show, Keroro, and the Hinata family. The first half, ‘I am Sergeant Keroro!’, shows a day in the life of the hapless frog-like alien as he is given his own (haunted) room by Mama Aki (who has a weird sticky and damp fetish). The second half, ‘Keroro Lands’, explains how the technologically superior alien was discovered, captured and enslaved by bad luck, Fuyuki’s disarmingly naive friendliness and the sheer formidable qualities of the Hinata women.
I particularly enjoyed how Natsumi breaks the fourth wall by yelling at the male voice-over not to give away her secrets (her attraction to Saburo-sempai and her jealousy at the superior state of Keroro’s room) as well as how Natsumi has ardent female admirers.

Fearing disqualification as team leader Keroro secretly follows Fuyuki and finds Private Tamama. We are also introduced to his host, Momoka Nishizawa, in ‘Momoka and Tamama Move Out!’ and are shown how they are MPD buddies. Momoka alternates between a shy “watakushi” and an aggressive “ore” personalities while Tamama has a destructive red-veined bug-eyed side. In ‘Momoka and Tamam Land’, the pair visit the Hinata household where Keroro’s meal-gone-wrong finally allows Momoka to achieve her cherished goal of addressing the Hinata son as “Fuyuki-kun”.
Fuyuki seems clueless about Nishizawa’s attentions but given what she’s like, perhaps it’s all for the best. LOL
