In ‘Keroro, Critical Point Breached!’, our main character is stressed by his inability to leave the house for fear of being captured and subjected to the three horrors of dissection, experimentation and unfortunate accidents. After all manner of far-fetched disguises are attempted, Tamama reminds him of their invisibility Anti-Barrier which he then promptly deploys against his nemesis, Natsumi, only for it to fail at the critical juncture and get pounded as a result. I owe much to Jason for influencing me to watch this anime. First volume of the manga is also on order from Amazon as well. This series has got lots of little touches that make it really enjoyable e.g. the “Sunset” on the shopping cart in the OP sequence showing that SUNRISE can make fun of itself; the numerous Gundam in-jokes; the “Sub-title de arimasu” and “Eyecatch” scene transitions; the catchy first OP “Kero! to march” which has a great marching beat and I’ve been singing to myself when I walk to campus - though I think I startled a Japanese girl at a traffic junction when I sang “カレーã®ãƒ©ã‚¤ã‚¹ã‚’炊ã忘れ~~!!” a bit too loudly. Very pleased with this episode. Some wonderful animation and fight scenes. Unlike Omni or Mentar, I wasn’t at all bothered by the jaw-jaw interrupting the momentum of the war-war. I think a diet of Jin Yong TV serials in my teenage years has trained me to think that fights between top fighters must have a substantial chatty component. And all the blah-blah is actually important - the pugilist who loses the argument or his/her temper first will also inevitably lose the fight itself. (Another major influence from that genre is that falling down cliffs does not signify death but a plot opportunity e.g. Aoi in Mai Otome.) No harem fun this time round but Rin’s screentime at the end of the episode was still a treat and looking forward to harem fun in the next episode. Continue reading ‘Fate/Stay Night 9′
