It’s pretty sad that I’m enjoying omake and parodies more than the actual series… SUNRISE, I’ll maki maki you to death!!! On to the main subject of this post, this week’s crop of Urayo’s parodies in his CG Diary weren’t so self-evident i.e. I had to thumb through my dictionary to get some of the jokes. So in the spirit of sharing (and double-checking with more fluent Japanese speakers), here goes - click on the dates for the doujin:
Top panel
2006-02-22: Chie-san, can you spare a moment?
Chie: Fuu… Aoi is definitely still alive. Because this rose’s answer tells me that it is so.
Second panel
She’s still alive..
She’s not dead..
She’s been saved..
It’s not too late..
Third panel
S..She’s not in trouble..
S..She’s not a guy..
N..Not in front.. (?)
S..s..s..s…she’s not the least attractive..
Aoi (in ghostly form): Chi..Chie-chan? (^_^;)
2006-02-23: PLZ PLZ SAVE AOI, HARUKA-CHA~~~
(I’ve used caps and misspelling to convey the distress and mental breakdown implied by Chie’s posture, the exclusive use of katakana and the lousy handwriting. Seems that Urayo also has a running joke about the characters not completing the “n” in “Haruku-chan” )
2006-02-24: I’ve just seen Madame President’s doujinshi display. Thank you very much. (On the left: Haahaahaahaa etc.)
2005-02-25:
Tomoe: Taking advantage of this mess, I’ll make Elder Sister my biatch!!!!!!!!!!! [Literally the second part is more like, "Even Oneesama won't be respectfully treated the same anymore!" I think. -_-; ]
White text on bottom right (pointing to Tomoe’s trademark lock): Invoking my rulecard, this is “Why as it grows longer, the more Tomoe turns to the Dark Side” [I'm having trouble with "houdo", have I got the subject/object parts on the sentence reversed??]
The pacifier was just ROTFLMAO!
2006-02-26:
Dark top:
This is..
This is.. Oneesama’s excited scent..
Haahaa..
…….?
Picture frame:
Tomoe: [Oneesama's been] Stolen Away!
If you’re puzzled by why it’s a leek rather than the usual ninjutsu log-replacement technique, it has something to do with [edit: a Mai HiME drama CD gag and thus also appears in (thanks, Vallen Chaos Valiant!)] Urayo’s previous work on Mai HiME. Haruka’s plant-like child is SD-ed into a (utterly useless and zero offensive power) leek sprouting creature and it’s become a running joke since. And BTW Kiyohime is chibified into “Kiyoshi” - still purple but more like a very cute baby octopus / tentacle monster. And Shizuru and Dhuran are basically the same thing - see the “Doggy Student President series” (third from the bottom of this page).
Actually… The ‘leek’ idea didn’t originate from Urayo, but from a Main Hime drama CD. In it, there was a scene when Natsuki had fallen ill, and one of the girls suggested from an old wife’s tale that she could be cured by having (and I am NOT joking) a leek inserted into her anus.
You heard that right. Mai Hime drama CD scriptwriters are weird. Anyway, Shizuru immediately volunteered to be the one to perform the “act” on Natsuki, and the “leek gag” was born.
Thanks! I’ve made the changes to the post. I wonder what kind of faces the seiyuu were making during the production of that drama CD. LOL
The Mai Hime Drama CD is darn good. It singlehandedly *made* me more hawt for Chie x Aoi than the other characters.
Oh and moy did a blog post about it before, I suggest you read it up and also get the drama CD as well. It’s well worth it :).
Are there translations of the Drama CD’s Available? If so, Where?
If I had known you were going to start translating these I would have introduced them to you sooner. ;) Some of them took hours just get the gist of dialog.
Kurogane - Thanks! I’ll put those down on my acquisitions list. :)
Zendar - I don’t know any full translated transcripts but the summaries mentioned by Kurogane are by the recently retired moyism Vol.1 and Vol.2.
Chalcahuite - Oh, I only did it to cheer myself up after being disappointed by this week’s episode. And I know what you mean about taking hours to get the gist esp with Shizuru’s kyotoben - utterly defeats my dictionary! Natsuki’s speech is very rough and informal which creates many problems for me as well.
Yeah, I don’t bother with trying to translate Shizuru speak much anymore, it’s too far above my pre-kindergarten skill level. And yes, I agree that Urayo is a good tonic for disappointing MO episodes. Speaking of which, more of my thoughts on MO this week and in general here.
