ShizNats Mai HiME Specials 4, 23, 25

MH Special #4 is from Shizuru Fujino’s POV, relating that she was captivated by Natsuki Kuga’s defiant yet lonely stare (love at first sight!); that she gradually got Natsuki to open up to her; that she has many things (being a HiME and lusting after her, one supposes) that she has yet to confess to her but is merely content to quietly watch out for her. And Shizuru’s fangirl club is always funny. I wonder why there isn’t a similar setup in Mai Otome with Tomoe as Chairwoman?

[Yeah, well, I've jumbled up the screencaps but I like it better in this arrangement for the post.]

Special #23 is a Natsuki-narrated piece in which her first impression of Shizuru is “a beautiful but weird girl” LOL. She acknowledges Shizuru’s feelings and says that it made her happy that Shizuru cared for her. Special #25 moves closer to her acceptance of Shizuru’s feelings for her - she learns from the people around her that “people cannot live alone” and also thanks all those who had stood by her side. Ah well, Natsuki’s feelings about Shizuru have always somewhat ambiguous and ambivalent (though tending towards positive towards the end) in Mai HiME. I certainly hope SUNRISE is not going to just keep teasing us about Natsuki Kruger and Shizuru Viola’s relationship - hammer us on the head with it at least once, dammit!

Tomoe the chairwoman of Shizuru’s fangirl club? Hehe I don’t think she’s the type who likes to share, if you know what I mean. Seeing how she’s like, she would want to keep Shizuru for herself and only for herself. ;p

Keep your friends close but keep your love rivals closer! ;)

Oh…. I see what you mean. In that case, I agree. Tabs, yeah. Keep tabs on your rivals. ^^

So these specials are nice in that we get to see more character background, and put into context with the series it fills in some gaps. Being a charter member of the ShizNats Booster Club, these do in effect affirm the relationship in a way. If they were not a couple at the end of 26, they were certainly on their way, I think, and Natsuki’s special certainly gives credence to that belief.

I don’t think a hug is too much to ask for, maybe with a little kiss. That’s not even being hit over the head very hard. Though, I hear rumors that Tomoe might be shifting her ire onto a certain aloof gakuencho, if true, that also would go a long way to effectively canonizing them, as it were.
