Fate/Stay Night 3

Saber and Lancer fight but the latter leaves after the former discovers his real identity. Rin adorably pouts and whines about the unfairness of Shirou getting Saber instead of her. Ooh Rin, you do want Saber so badly, duntcha? Rin gets Kotomine to inform Shirou about the rules of the War of the Holy Grail and we have the clichéd ‘Hero Determines He’ll Fight’ Resolution. Fortunately creepy little Ilya and Berserker, whom I hope will help matchmake Rin with Saber, show up at the end of the episode.

Bit of a slow episode. While buildup and laying out groundrules is important for plot development, I hope we’re not going to get more episode where half of it is spent just talking a lot. Come on, this is based on a fighting game after all.

I’ve… erm… made some improvements to the above screenies. Mweheheh. :3

Frankly I’m puzzled how Saber could pwn Archer so quickly, given that Archer fought Lancer to a standstill and Lancer had sort of managed to land a serious blow on Saber. Game Spoiler blah blah. Well, just as long as it helps to set up the whole thing about Rin recharging Saber’s mana in order to survive, I’ll be happy to overlook the one-sidedness of that battle.

So I look forward to more people joining Dav, Kurogane and Demon Eyes and meself in proclaiming:

RIN X SABER FTW!!!

    GAME SPOILER

From the demo, Saber was going for Rin from the start but Archer materialized and took the hit for her - hence, instant ownage. He never really put up a fight. Rin had to use one of her command seals to dematerialize Archer to keep Saber from finishing him off.

  2. 2 Kurogane

    RIN X SABER FTW!!!!

Couldn’t agree more. Kana Ueda and Ayako Kawasumi make a fine couple.

  3. 3 Mentar

Well, this was “episode rulebook for the Holy Grail War”. It HAD to be done, and I’d rather have it sooner than later.

Next ep looks delicious enough ^_^

Thanks, tragicsmile - that really helps to explain things. I hope this kind of stuff won’t be glossed over too much and leave the non-game players in the dark.

Yes, am looking forward to the next episode vely vely muchly. :)

BWAHAHAHA XD!!!! You’ve done an excellent job, my friend. An excellent job indeed. Really appreciate that! :3

    RIN X SABER FTWWWWWWW~!!!!

I find it very cute how Rin deliberately whined in front of Saber (and Shirou) that it would’ve been waaaaay better if she was Saber’s Master. She must have been really annoyed if she went as far as to calling Shirou a “heppoko” (which basically means a “quack”. Oh wait… It means that when a shrink calls you so. Nonetheless, like Rin said, an “untrained good-for-nothing” :p). LOL, had to make sure her complaints are within her desired Servant’s earshot… One thing I must commend about Shirou though… He took Rin’s insult in a good calm way. I’ve seen a lot of cliché male characters who’d just lash back and act like brats whenever they get insulted whereas Shirou accepted it like a gentleman.

Neway, I can’t wait for the scene where Saber’s mana becomes too low for her to go on. Mwehehehe *rubs hands gleefully*. Come on! Lets see some girl-bonding! Of course, when I said “girl-bonding”, I do mean a budding relationship between Rin and Saber which makes them look like best girlfri- *cough*, I mean, gal friends doing typical girly stuffs together e.g. sharing clothes, shopping etc etc etc *nudge nudge* *wink wink*. Really! I do ;p! w00t!!!!

I’m sorry why is Shirou the main character again? Rin is so much more interesting. Add my name to the chorus. Rin X Saber FTW!

  7. 7 Kurogane

    >>I’m sorry why is Shirou the main character again?

Well, technically, the only thing he needs to do is summon Saber, after that, he’s useless already :).

Meh, still, OK, he does have an important part later on, but seriously, Shiki was a much more better male lead than him :P.

  8. 8 Demon Eyes

Thats is the question of this year. “Why is Shirou the main character?”

Frankly, I don’t care. In my eyes,
    Rin is the prontagonist.
    Rin deserves Saber.
    Rin is Rin.

One of the subbers called Shirou a “worthless fool”.

I wanna give Rin a kiss for saying that. Really. But I am afraid of what Saber will do to me.

    Spwculations of next ep;

Saber provokes Berserk by trying to hit Illya and she gets it. Really gets it. But this is a good thing. Since it call for Rin’s help in magic supplication.

*Sighs* Iam having sweet dreams about the next ep. In both action and *coughs* some other stuff. Rin/Saber stuff.

Shirou took the insult well, ’cause it was true. Too true. A power to harden things!! How the hell is that gonna help Saber?!! How!?? Harden her already hard steel?!!

    Die Shirou.

    Long live SabeRin

  9. 9 Dav

    Yes, mad props to Rin!!

And where is Caster? Where is Casteeeeer?

Hope she has Rule Breaker ready.

*Sigh* Yeah, she doesn’t appear until quite a while later….. I’m just impatient. :p

  10. 10 Zyl

Well, actually I’m thinking that Shirou being Saber’s master is important for Rin x Saber to get going because otherwise Rin wouldn’t have to use the… erm… intimate method of mana recharging. Also cuz Shirou is not a powerful magician, Saber can’t go into spirit form therefore school uniform! :)

And looks like Ep 3 is building up to the mana recharge with Saber needing healing after Lancer’s heart piercing attack (and Greenhorn Shirou being unable to do so). *fingers crossed* (^_-)_X

  11. 11 tragicsmile

Well, Shiro comes into his own when he develops his own spell specialties :3 But otherwise, he’s pretty useless. Not enough mana, only few magical circuits open, even his dad said he had no magical talent whatsoever (IIRC from Moonlit World).
Not that it changes a thing, given that Rin (and hopefully Sakura) will be more interesting whatever he does. : p

  12. 12 Chalcahuite

So aside from necessary plot conveniences/contrivances, what we’re saying is that cardboard > Shirou?

  13. 13 T_I

How can you not like Shirou’s yuusha want to save everyone, want to help everyone(even bastards) complex?

He’s like a relic out of the 70s; back when anime men weren’t wishy washy and indecisive

A male version of Sugiura Midori! Except that Gakutenou doesn’t talk smack.

  14. 14 Dav

Yeah, I agree Shirou’s resolution is indeed admirable. He’s one of the very few male lead in a harem series whom I don’t despise. But of course, it still depends on which ending the series take. ;p

“Also cuz Shirou is not a powerful magician, Saber can’t go into spirit form therefore school uniform!”
And consequently, girl-bonding ^^! Okay, I’ve changed my opinion. You’re right about it being important for Shirou to be Saber’s Master at the beginning. If Shirou was a competent mage, Saber would be in spirit form and hiding all the time. She would never had a chance to build a friendship with Rin then. Yes, thank you Shirou! ^-^

But of course it would be still better if Rin had Saber from the beginning. Can’t wait for the events which happen later in the series…

Yoo hoo… Caster… You know what to do, honey. >;)

  15. 15 mango

I think that it’d be nice to see Saber x Shirou. I think they’d make an awesome couple after seeing #4 ^__^

  16. 16 Shirou-kun
