Tsubasa, Souma’s long-lost brother, tries to reclaim Souma for the Dark Side which he fell into after killing their own father to defend his little bro. However, Nekkid Glowing Himeko gives him Dah Power to use his Heart Piercing Technique on Tsubasa. And not before giving a little speech about fighting for his loved one which impresses Himeko and creates more angst for Chikane.

Blogging this in the aftermath of Mai HiME, I just thought: “Damn! Chikane is doing a Shizuru!” Except, of course, Himeko doesn’t have a Natsuki type first person POV flashback of very red lips.

And just where is *your* big robotic Himeko Defender?

On the bright side, Himeko ends this episode semi-conscious rather than crying.
Have fun :) … you’re now entering the good parts of KannaMiko. Especially episode 6 is excellent IMHO.
KannaMiko is the extreme example of hit-and-miss. Scrap all mecha nonsense and watch the rest would be my recommendation. Especially the last two eps offer some real gems for drama afficionados.
Sometimes I wonder if the mecha was just a commercial decision to broaden appeal. But then again the designs are just so corny that it’s almost like a parody.

Technically, Chikane came before Shizuru actually.
Doh! Good point, Kurogane. Also, now that I think of it, despite some superficial similarities, ShizNat and Chikane x Himeko are really quite different.
