Happy holidays to ye gentle readers! Vaguely Christmas-type post on Avemarian (character profiles in Japanese and OP download via this link), a parody of the classic, over-commercialised Evangelion and a favourite yuri series, Maria-sama ga miteru (MariMite) by M3 Animation Box. At first I thought this was just a very high quality AMV but it appears that they are planning a full-length feature at least! The basic concept is importing the MariMite characters and hierachy into the Evangelion universe as well as fusing some MariMite concepts with Evangelion plot devices.
There’s some shuffling around of character roles. Mostly importantly, although Touko (as Rosa Chinesis en bouton petit soeur) parallels Sohryu Asuka Langley’s character but takes over Shinji Ikari’s role as the main character with the antagonistic relationship with a respected figure (Gendou/Sachiko). Her robot, AVE-01, takes EVA Unit 01’s designation but most elements of EVA Unit 02’s design.

Both Sei and Shimako are listed as missing. I’m a bit disappointed since Sei is my favourite MariMite character and I particularly enjoyed her interaction of all sorts (flirting, teasing, harassing, counselling, comforting etc.) with Yumi. Also no mention of a Pen Pen equivalent.

AVE-01 has been given Touko’s curls - which, after seeing Shiho in Mai Otome, just makes me think “maki maki maki!” Though underneath the armour plating, they are revealed to be like Yumi’s ponytails. In the M3 writeup, it appears that Yumi suffered a similar fact to Yui - being absorbed into the unit during testing.
Miki has a clear resemblence to Yumi but it’s unclear if she is like Rei who was cloned from a combination of Yui and Lilith’s. I’m guessing that Shimako will be the equivalent of Lilith in this series, given that Sei is paralleled to Adam.
It should be less contentious to assume that Touko will suffer Shinjiesque angst due to waves of Gendoesque uncaring and contempt from Sachiko in contrast to the concern shown to Miki. The Gendou/Sachiko parallel is brilliant.
There’s a little love umbrella in the bottom right corner of the last screencap with Touko on the right. But the name on the left has been scratched over and I can’t make it out.
Overall, a really funny OP which brought back many memories (good and bad). ãŒã‚“ã°ã£ã¦ãã ã•ã„, M3 Animation Box!

Is there suppose to be no sound with the OP file?
There’s supposed to be “Zankoku tenshi…” etc. playing in the background. Codec issue with your player? I’m using BSPlayer 1.22, most recent codec pack installed was x264-315.
It should be kinda obvious, but Shimako fills the role of Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu / Unit 02. The Ave Unit 02 wields juzu beads instead of a prog knife and has big, floppy bunny ears (Shimako is *notoriously* drawn with bunny ears by the fanbase- don’t ask why).
I think Katsura plays Lorenz (hence the ‘K001′). Shigeru Aoba is played by Mami and Makoto Hyuga is played by Nana (who is destined to become Yoshino’s souer in the series). And Suzuhara Touji is played by Kanako (who only appears in a non-speaking cameo in the actual animated series).
That WOULD be funny if every Angel resembed Sei somehow. Especially the later ones that try to make contact with the Eva pilots.
