Mai Otome 02

Arika escapes from observation and tries to get the Academy Council (which is meeting to discuss Nina’s battle against the Evangelion Slave) to admit her as an Otome. First she has to find it and, after the plot device of numerous hijinks to introduce the rest of the cast, she does. Nagi, who is also royalty like Mashiro, arrives to do what he does best - set some kind of elaborate plot in motion which involves pitting Arika and Nina against each other in some kind of a competitive relationship.

Didn’t really enjoy this episode as much. Mainly because there was a lot of talking that I couldn’t understand in the raw. But this all-girl maid-uniform-for-school-uniform academy is dripping with so much akogare (admiration) and potential for yuri that I’m still fairly pleased. ^_^

Shizuru isn’t just an expert fighter but also really good with the chin-holding, nose nuzzle and ear blow techniques. Natsuki should be well pleased, assuming that she and Shizuru are snuggling up together in this series.

It’s nice that Akane has her own fangirls as well. Shizuru would be the type that the girls admire from afar but Akane would be the non-intimidating, oh so kind and understanding one that a kouhai (junior or underclasswomen) would go to for advice and encouragement. The whole "Oneesama" (elder sister, respectful form) thing needs to be complemented with "Gokigenyo" (Good day) instead of plain vanilla "Ohayo gozaimasu" (Good morning), dammit! The etiquette lesson, given by the former nun, just emphasizes the whole maid and Hegelian master-slave dialectic thang.

The second yurilicious encounter with the Debonair Oneesama. But I doubt she’ll be a match for Sei Satou’s potent mix of being openly lesbian and being able to move through the spectrum of "dirty old man" (oyaji no kanji) to "wacky thoughtless goofball" to "wise mentor" in the space of a single conversation. LOL.

Well, so far, the earlier mentioned parralells to Mai HiME/Gundam Seed and Mai Otome/Seed Destiny are already showing their signs. I feel disappointed already… and where the crap is Mai?!

Well, it’s not a direct parallel since GS-GSD is the same universe with the old characters reintroduced without modification. I have a feeling that the flaming girl in the OP is Mai and she’s being saved for some big dramatic point later. Currently wait and see.

Also I’m surprised that I didn’t recognise Chie without her spectacles. Glad to see that she seems to have a bigger role in Mai Otome.
