Lunamaria Hawke: I faced off Athrun who was in Justice but lost Impulse’s right hand and leg. Shinn came to my rescue but he and Athrun seemed evenly matched. Without Rey the Political Commissar around, Athrun managed to get me to consider that Team Minerva wasn’t really protecting anything but power. I tried to stop the two from fighting by putting Impulse in front of Justice but it looked like Shinn was going to kill me until Athrun stopped him and then disabled Destiny. Shinn was ok and cried a lot when he woke up, calling for Stellar. Team Archangel succeeded in destroying the Requeim, stopping the attack on Orb and also brought down the Messiah. Shinn and I are now stuck on the moon but at least we’re together.
Think Lunamaria’s jealousy over Athrun running off with Meyrin got the better of her here.
Of course, Lunamaria is nowhere as skilled a pilot as Athrun. Even with a better non-grunt mech, it’s still a hand-me-down.
Shinn in SEED mode, loses to Athrun who is not in SEED mode. So who’s your daddy now, Shinn-boy?
Like Chinese martial arts movie, he who wins the rhetorical arguments about righteousness and justice and all that crap, usually wins the fight against the opponent who loses the argument and his temper first.
OMGWTFBBQ! Shinn has given in to his hatred, his anger makes his powerful! Lunamaria has been the *only* unambiguously good thing in his life for this whole series. And what about his promise, in GSD 38, to always protect her!?
Athrun finally goes SEED - nb: in order to protect Lunamaria - and gives Shinn the slapdown.
Lunamaria, after nearly being killed by her psycho boyfriend, still wants to work things out. A lot of people will ask if she’s lost her marbles too but as a Lunamaria fan, I’d like to think more generously of her. That she understands that he is in a lot of pain and that he needs her lovin’ - well, don’t we always see loads of examples in real life where we think that this guy or gal doesn’t deserve their partner?
So Shinn, where’s your apology to Lunamaria for trying to kill her? I think maybe Lunamaria needs a Defence Force to protect her from her own boyfriend. But then again, Athrun already seems to be doing a fine job of that.
And it seems like Rey got better character development and series closure than Shinn and Lunamaria. It was actually quite touching how Rey turned against Gil (again, the rhetoric argument thing which Kira won hands down), how Talia came to comfort both the silly misguided men and then they had a nice family moment together before going down in flames. I felt most sorry for Talia but also for all three of them as the potential for them as a family was revealed at last for such a fleeting moment. Felt a lot more sympathy for Rey when he got stunned by Kira’s line about how his life was his own and it did not belong to Rau Le Crueset. And even more sympathetic when he started sobbing after shooting his beloved father figure and then finally finally finding some comfort in Mother Talia’s embrace. On Rey’s account, I thought this episode was worth it. Though as an ending, it still is pretty inadequate.
Now all we need is a lake of tang, a huge Rey head and red hair clips for Lunamaria and we’ll have the End of Evangelion. Now that movie made more sense than GSD, dammit!
And this is almost like gloating…
So many unanswered questions. So was Gilbert behind the Junius 7 drop? Will Team Archangel be able to prove that Gilbert was a Bad Guy afterall? How did Gilbert get his hands on the X-1 Destroy data before it was launched? He also seemed to know about Requiem before it was fired. Did he have some inside source in Blue Cosmos / Logos? Did he have some kind of control over Djibril whom he seemed to be able to anticipate flawlessly? About Shinn, has he really realised that he’s been piloting and fighting for the wrong reasons? That while no one can fault him for feeling pain, that he used his power for rage and revenge? That he killed his benefactor, Todoka? That he was truly responsible for Stellar’s death in the Destroy? That he really owes Lunamaria a big apology, a thousand roses and anything else that she wants?
Sigh! But Big Consolation - Lunamaria has survived! Despite being the girlfriend of Shinn He Whose Girl He Loves Will Surely Die (like Mayu and Stellar) and despite getting the hand-me-down Impulse. So here’s a sigh of relief. Still like Zaku Warrior Lunamaria better than Impulse Lunamaria though. Sigh!
I liked this epsiode alot actually. Mostly because Luna made it out ok.
Anyways despite it’s faults I really liked destiny as a whole. It was always enjoyable to watch (not counting clip epsiodes)
Luna seems to have good luck at beating the odds too, seriously how many times did it look over for her.
I also liked her Zaku better.
Ah,damn. I missed my guess. Luna was on my “to-be-dead” list since 45. Guess this means that there’s gonna be some kind of SEED 3 or at least an OVA. Damn commercialization.
An after phase OVA has already been announced. Supposed to cover the aftermath from what I hear

in conclusion the old cast has owned the new cast , the last scene seems to show that old cast in now trash and the new is shining ^^’
can’t wait to see the after phase, i would like to know what happend after that, for Luna with her sister , Athrun with cagalli and what will Shinn do.
I really enjoy GSD till the end.
7th> When I first started watching GSD, I thought I liked it better than GS but now GSD has ended, I now find that GS was more tightly scripted. Character development in GS was also better. Shinn, the supposed lead for GSD, hardly got any development at all! And the use of stock footage, from GS even, got a bit tiresome.
It’s not just the Zaku design that I liked more than Impulse but also the phase in personalities. After Lunamaria is assigned to Impulse (and gets together with Shinn The Killer of Her Sister and Athrun), the shift in her behaviour was just too sudden for me.
OVA. Hope it won’t be another stock footage filled non-story. At least get some closure for Shinn!

Im not really surprised that they didnt show the hawks meeting up again in this epsiode. Now that the figting’s over it’s not really hard for them t mett up again, Meyrin just cant go back to plant really. That’ll probably happen in the OVA.
One thing that surprised me, in the entire 50 episodes not one Mayaa Sakamoto song.
I’m wondering if Luna will have a Suit CD so maybe a Maaya’s song (Luna x Meyrin cd)

Yeah, I’m surprised she hasn’t had a song either given her strong credits in this dept. Also I’m still puzzled at why she’s has had many lead roles since her debut as the lead in Escaflowne.
zyl > lunamaria is the result of marketing strategies and the current moe trends of otakus. I mean, what’s more easier to boost sales than putting big name seiyuus in a show. Personally, I go d/l and watch everything that has Ayako Kawasumi, Yui Horie, Inoue Kikuko or Noto Mamiko in it ^_^.Heck, if they included Noto Mamiko or Ayako Kawasumi as a gundam pilot, i’ll kill to buy their unit ^_^;;.
As for me, I havent watched much of Maaya’s seiyuu roles, but she doesn’t really do a outstanding job on voicing Lunamaria,but still acceptable.I like her songs better and I had a serious obssesion with PURACHINA once. Hmm, I guess i shld go d/l Escaflowne to watch.
I though Maaya was outstanding actually as Luna.
anyways one thing I liked about the ep was it showed that Athrun actually gave a damn about Luna, when he took Meyrin with him he didnt really seem to consider how it would affect her. I mean Luna was nothing but nice to him even if she did come across as kinda stalkerish.
Kurogane> I’ll concede the moe point - seiyuus can be a big draw. Maaya Sakamoto also has a pretty decent following. However I also have to confess that I didn’t really know and only picked up Escaflowne after seeing GSD and I thought Maaya Sakamoto did a better job with Lunamaria than Hitomi Kanzaki in Escaflowne.
7th> I agree with you here. Maaya did a great job with Lunamaria but because her character was a supporting one and pretty much marginalised, I don’t think there’s much the seiyuu could do. I think Maaya’s range in Lunamaria was stronger than Escaflowne’s Hitomi - my favourites were her nagging (Meyrin for buying too many cosmetics), scolding (Shinn for asking stupid questions and being rude to Athrun), flirty (recalling Karmaburn’s comment about her ‘dirty talk’), jealous-angry (Athrun-Meer and not being able to take a hint to go to town w her), disbelief (Meyrin running off w Athrun) and sad (thinking Meyrin and Athrun were killed). Note all of this precedes her receiving Impulse. Long live Zaku Lunamaria!
yeah I see your point on Zaku Luna, and it makes sense but I liked how once she got Impulse she became more of a real charecter, instead of a background one.
But then again I do prefer her happier Zaku phase, she almost always seemd really sad when she had the impulse
i agree, i prefer the old luna in zaku, i think that she was better before Meyrin and athrun defected.
she had just one good time in impulse when she fought the destroy, and maybe when she “destroyed” requiem.
before that when she was around Athrun, she was awesome like you said Zyl ^^

As for maaya i think that she hadn’t much chance to prove her role with Luna,she got few line in the serie and with the old cast taking the lead, she was as a side character. But i liked her voice very much ^^
I was a little upset when she didnt get any real recognition for taking out Requiem, I mean I know she’s no Shinn or Rey but that was definatly a medal worthy accomplishment for her
Argh… I knew it… Cagalli didn’t have an important role in the ending like in GS Argh… Is it really AthrunXCagalli or AthrunXMeyrin?! they really HAVE to make a season 3 after the so many unanswered questions…

I’m still puzzled at why she wasn’t more pissed off with Shinn for trying to kill Meyrin and Athrun (GSD 36/37) and then nearly killing her in the final ep!
Well in regards to why she wasnt angry with Shinn for 37/38 there a few reasons
1. She knew it was an order and Shinn didnt want to
2. She knew that Shinn was sorry
3. If Shinn didnt do it Rey would have, hell if she had been in the hanger she may have had to fight them herself
Really it just comes down to Luna be level headed enough to see whose fault it really was (Well at teh very least whose fault it wasn’t ) a traith that is not very common.
anyways, was anny one else half expecting Luna to go Seed mode on Athrun.
i would had expect Luna VS the 3 doms and she goes seed against them
and destroy them of course :p

dom33, with respect to your first point, while I dislike Shinn, “hatred” is over-stating it a bit. I mainly take exception to the underdevelopment of his character (so many unanswered questions and unresolved issues) and to his quite gratituous attack on Lunamaria. While you might like Shinn, my unhappiness with how his character has been developed by SUNRISE stands.
About your second point, assuming I understood you correctly, yes, both the ending and the Three Ships Alliance/Clyne Faction sucked - hardly a good ending at all from a storytelling (as opposed to a merchandising) point of view.

I hoped during the entire serie that Shinn would either change his personality or die, non of it happened, not even after trying to kil the girl he swore to protect.
I just hate that guy, I cant understand that Lunamaria would even consider him as a boyfriend.
If there is an OVA I truly hope that Shinns character becomes more logic, because its realy annoying as it is.
I realy want there to be a third Gundam seed serie too, with more romance between Kira and Lacus, and Authrun and Cagali, that would be nice…….

I do like Lunamaria, despite the fact that she changed her dam feelings so fast. Oh well her younger sister is a lot suitable for athrun than her, seeing as she does support athrun 100 percent, risking her job and her life at the process just to be with him. Sum it up, luna’s ok, meyrin is more suitable for athrun (yah, they end up together in the end - Final Plus episode), and i would always hate shinn, who is so stupid right up to the end of the series, even though it was a relief wen he finally admit hes a stupid moron in the final plus episode, still he doesnt deserve to be one of the main characters since hes just plain annoying.
