Only one brief scene with Asa-chan spilling her tea in shock when she overhears Eustoma bragging to Primula about Rin and Shia’s impending marriage. Then another with her in Sound Only mode calling, probably to ask Rin about the rumours of his impending marriage to Shia but then chickening out and asking for Kaede instead. Sigh.
But my respect for Shia grew by leaps and bounds. Her emotional maturity shone through as she realised the pain that the marriage rumours, which so delighted her at first, had caused to her good friends, Rin-chan (Nerine) and Kae-chan (Kaede). She also realised that things were going too fast for Rin as well and he was under a lot of pressure. So she’s decided to take the pace down a peg and for the two of them to get to know each other better. Tacit assumption also is to give the other girls more time to accept their pairing because it also seems important to her for Nerine and Kaede to bless their union.

Well, there are lots of better anime blog entries on this episode of Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid like by the Fastest Gunslinger in this Town Omni or good insight into character development by Ren.
My own quick thoughts - after Sousuke and Kaname, it’s Tessa’s turn to break down emotionally. I thought it made her a lot more interesting; she showed vulnerability mixed with the responsibility of authority as well as a touch of jealousy. The new lieutenant is a bit too good and too “been there done that” though. Hopefully he will be a better mentor to Sousuke than Athrun was to Shinn but I am not entirely sure that “Your anger will make you powerful” assumption works in the FMP! universe. As such, I didn’t enjoy the mecha fight that much as it was all a setup. Mao and Lieutenant “Bel” seem to go way back and more. A touch of playful flirting in their exchange. Now that would get Weber really mad.
Given the existence of the KKK (Kitto Kitto Kaede-chan - though I still imagine them with pointy white hoods and burning crosses), SSS (Suki Suki Shia-chan) and RRR (Ran Ran Rin-chan) in the anime, it’s not surprising that fans of Asa-chan would form our own defence association. Given the alliterative precedent set by the others, it was probably inevitable that it would be called Ai Ai Asa. Some manifestations have already been spotted some time ago, particularly in the Anime Suki forums and now it’s time for my anime blog to get into the act as well!
Proposed terms of reference for this particular branch of the AAA include: (1) We love Asa-chan; (2) Peaceful coexistence with the other defence forces and Tsuchimi Rin; (3) Display of some form of AAA affliation e.g. banner, pic or blog entry.
What got you to pledge allegiance to Asa-chan and the AAA? For me, it was “Chooootto zaaaan-nen.” (ep 2) :P

The obligatory beach episode but hey, I’m not complaining. Asa-chan once again gets very close to Rin, breasts-wise but the episode concentrates on how Rin and Shia play Survivor together - it seems that this experience has drawn them even closer with Rin’s gallantry in adversity and lots of hand-holding. Their kiss is foiled by the appearance of the rest of the gang.
I got a bit carried away so be warned that more screencaps ahead than usual. Also some spoilers from the game.

The booth babe from the Tokyo Game Show 2005 probably thinks she is giving the Victory sign. But in the UK, it is akin to giving the middle finger. While its origins are disputed, it doesn’t change the fact that this is the default rude sign here in ole Blighty. It’s generally not very good for your health to indicate “two” like that here. Anyhow, here’s to you, Mr Fukuda.
The Tokyo Game Show is not complete without cosplay and there were also a few Lunamaria cosplayers. While I’m not exactly enthused by them and Lunamaria cosplay just doesn’t look like Lunamaria without the hair antenna, I have watched Comic Party and appreciate that they share my fondness for Lunamaria. Or rather, I should specify, Zaku Warrior Lunamaria. I always enjoyed how she chased after the clueless Athrun, nagged Shinn and had mecha-catfights with Stellar. But when she received Impulse, everything started going downhill. Well, just two episodes to go.
