Asa-chan was Kaede’s senior when the latter was in the Cooking Club. With that opportunity, Asa-chan was inseparable from Rin. With a bright and cheerful character, Asa-chan likes festivals and really enjoys feasts (dinner parties?). She has an aversion (prejudice?) towards magic. [That explains Kareha's reluctance to use healing magic on her ankle in Ep 7. Rin and Kaede don't seem to know about this.]
Kaede becomes sick due to exhaustion, aggravated by having to go home in the rain without her fence-stuck umbrella. Rin makes a complete mess of the kitchen and then has to cope with the arrival of reinforcements from the Shigure Asa Division, Shia Brigade and Nerine half-strength Battalion. For most of the episode, Kaede’s fragile and utilitarian sense of self-worth is constantly threatened but she and Rin reconcile by the end though I’m not sure if she’s really gotten the point that Rin was trying to get across.
Rin, his harem plus Itsuki and Mayumi decide to have a Sunday potluck picnic. However Nerine, despite being good at studies and magic, has no experience at home economics. She turns to none other than Shigure Asa sempai for emergency cooking remedial lessons. With Asa-chan’s help, Rin really enjoys Nerine’s tamagoyaki (kind of like a rolled omelette with soup stock mixed in).
Kareha confirmed that Shia is, apparently, a dunce when it comes to English, World and Japanese History because they are all foreign to the Shinkai. However Rin realised that she did master Japanese perfectly but had to have the implication that Shia did it for his sake pointed out to him by no other than his Shigure Asa-sempai. Spurred by this realisation, Rin goes to Shia’s house to study with her thus unknowingly invoking the oldest school dating trick in the book of getting close to a love interest - “Let’s study together!”
The Joint defence forces for Kaeda (KKK), Shia (SSS) and Nerine (RRR) are formed and go after Rin who takes over inside a utility closet and later, under Asa-chan’s skirt. It is revealed that Shia and Nerine knew Rin from when they were young and his kindness left them with a lasting impression while Rin himself only vaguely remembers it. While Rin is initially quite bothered by all the unwelcome attention coming his way, he gradually comes to be more positive towards his love interests after overhearing them talk about the past as well as reflecting on Asa-chan’s sage advice.
