SHUFFLE! 07

I generally leave the harem series to Stripey but as this is the Asa-chan episode and I am an Asa fan, here I go. This episode is important in the way that Rin recognises Asa as an attractive girl for the first time after the whole school is ablaze with the rumours of the popular Takizawa’s confession to her. In Stripeyrian terms, this establishes the Basis of Attraction (BoA) for Rin towards Asa which is an indispensable part of any credible relationship. While I think it is highly unlikely that Asa-chan will get her guy (not aggressive enough a la Kotori in DC and DCSS), I do hope that somehow she’ll put up a good fight so that at least she can be happy that she wasn’t too passive and let the guy slip through her fingers.

Nobue fails to raid Chika’s piggy bank again and after a bizarre Miu-inspired session of playing doctor and nurse, she gets a job as a waitress in the local diner. Inevitably, she is found out by Ana who brings to the whole gang to oogle. Whereupon Miu leads the charge to feast on ice cream, on Nobue’s expense, like rabid but oh-so-cute baby vultures. A food fight ensues, leaving Nobue with just enough money left over to buy a packet of cigarettes.

Absolutely hilarous episode. Miu has got it so bad for Nobue. LMAO. And it’s quite ironic that Nobue is working for the sake of feeding her ciggie habit and that her workplace forbids smoking.

Torture. Tessa’s squeamishness at Vincent Blueno’s interrogation caused me to revisit the old debate about means and ends. I haven’t read the manga so I don’t know if this will have any bearing on the plot but if I may draw a parallel to GSD, Dullindal’s words of peace seem to be undermined by his use of lies (Meer as Lacus) but the dilemma is neatly made irrelevant when his Destiny Plan aka Brave New World isn’t something much to be desired. I wonder if the TDD1 crew will start to face this dilemma under pressure from Mithril’s structural problem of its mercenary recruitment and/or threat from Amalgam.

Haircut. This was a really tender scene and one of the few Sousuke-Kaname interactions that I actually enjoyed. The contrast in Sousuke’s reaction to the commercial hair stylist and Kaname couldn’t be clearer. Both confided in their complete trust in each other which Sousuke clearly displayed by being able to fall asleep. The way Kaname played his hair was also very sensuous.
