The really bad guys reveal themselves to the bad guys and show why they are really bad. Mithril higher management briefs the foot soldiers. Someone is spying on Chidori. Sousuke over-reacts. Chidori stomps on him. (covers face) Fairly harmless perpetrator is dealt with. Oh wait, someone really is spying on Chidori. ~ cue ominous music ~
Lunamaria Hawke: For my efforts at Heaven’s Base, I got a medal! But since I was playing third fiddle with a hand-me-down Gundam, I was still behind Rey (who was awarded the same medal as me and inducted into FAITH) and Shinn (awarded the Nebula medal and inducted into FAITH). Then shocking news that Djibril had been sighted in Orb. Things came full ciricle, since our descent down to Earth after trying to break apart Junius 7, with the Minerva joining the attacking force. On his own authority, Shinn launched into battle.
I actually was going to just wait and see how The Second Raid season of Full Metal Panic! shaped up first, partly out of my intense dislike for Chidori Kaname. But with the promise of regular doses of yuri from the second episode onwards, I dived in faster than you can whisper “Kiyohime…”
Overall, a good episode with enough screentime for all of the returning cast especially the Mithril Arm Slave pilots and the senior crew of the Tuatha de Danaan. Small quibble about Anime Keep’s sub which had Mardukas as “Lieutenant Commander” when I think “fuchou” means “Vice Captain” and demoting Andrei Kalinin to “Lieutenant” from Major (shousa). If you want a real review I suggest Omni’s entry. I’m just going to talk a bit about my two favourite anime ladies in this series, Teletha “Tessa” Testarossa and Melissa Mao. :)
In celebration of Ender’s remarks on the evolution of anime bloggers’ writing styles, particularly the part about “there are some things that are reliable standbys, like … Stripey’s penchant for…. sis-con?” , I’ve attached an article from the Economist which gives a scientific basis for Nemu’s penchant for using her Nii-san’s old shirts as pajamas. Junichi acquiesces to Nemu’s continuation of this practice and asks, “You wash the shirts [before using them as pajamas], right?” “Yeah… but they still smell like you, Nii-san,” comes the embarrassed reply. No need to thank me, Stripey ole pal. :)
Given my penchant for yuri, it’s not surprising that I’m highlighting Miharu Amakase. Sure, she’s silly especially with that Kaolla Su taste for bananas but I like how she so openly displays her desire for Nemu. Later she surprised me by being one of the few characters without any hangups and even active support for Nemu x Junichi. Also it’s a relief to have a female character who isn’t attracted to Junichi. Lots of spoilers. (Why do I even bother to warn people? Ok, this will be my last spoiler warning ever.)
