Lunamaria Hawke: Hardly any screen time for me in this episode. Rey told us that Djibril had escaped from Heaven’s Base, abandoning his fellow Logos members and that it wouldn’t be so easy to end the fighting. Shinn flared up and seemed just a bit too determined to crush the rest of Logos and their supporters.
Zyl: Given my limited command of Japanese, I had a pretty tough time following the raw and look forward to first impressions from Omni (edit: link) and others on GSD 39. My attempt at a summary. Djibril is headed for Orb. But of course, this episode belonged to Kira who borrowed Strike Rouge, launched into space to rescue the Eternal which was discovered after Da Costa was trailed from the Mendel colony where he seemed to have picked up an old note book with a “Destiny Plan”. Lacus was trying to find a link between Gilbert and the Junius 7 perpetrators? What’s in the pod she wanted to send to Earth? Strike Rouge was badly damaged but Eternal’s onboard factory had made ready the Strike Freedom. So Kira went forth and kicked the arses of over 20 ZAKUs and GOUFs as well as three Nazca class cruisers. And he wasn’t even in SEED mode but it helped that Strike Freedom has got Providence-style remote weapons pods though maybe not the DRAGOON system. Meyrin was having a fever but was otherwise fine. Through Mu/Neo, Athrun conveyed the message that it’s checkmate once Lacus is killed.
Shinn x Lunamaria. No further indications on their relationship in this episode due to lack of screentime but she seemed troubled by Shinn’s determination, demonstrated by his can-crushing, to similarly crush the enemies of the Chairman Immanuel Kant’s Perpetual Peace plan. Not the kind of reaction one would expect from someone who blamed Logos for the loss of Meyrin and Athrun. Also no indication on the validity of the Flay Hawke thesis.
Lunamaria Life Expectancy. Stripey felt that supporting characters who receive second hand mechas are likely to die before the end of the series e.g. Mu in Strike. His reasoning is that the mecha is the character or so strongly tied to the character that being given another (more important) character’s mecha demonstrates a certain dispensability of the receiving character. I do accept that Lunamaria is not an important enough character to ensure her survival but, from GS, the second girlfriend of the main characters have both survived. I suspect she will have some role to play in getting Shinn to realise that Athrun was right after all which might put her in Rey’s crosshairs which might result in her getting hurt and then percipitating the Rey-Shinn conflict foreshadowed in the OP. Also I find it hard to imagine how Shinn will find peace of mind without someone at his side - Kira certainly achieved his Zen through Lacus and Athrun would have blown himself up with Justice if not for Cagalli.
Do not underestimate the power of the gf.
about the pod, as much as I can figure from watching and reading from animesuki’s forum, seems like it would have been Strike-Freedom (and maybe Infinite Justice). Lacus had to make sure the new gundam(s) got to Kira and the crew at all cost, and with Kira’s surprise visit that just helped things among.
Or maybe it could have been a lifepod with some of the crew (ie. Andy and Lacus) taking an escape route so they could deliver their findings to Archangel. *shrugs*
… and if Lunamaria is gonna die, I want some more black panty action from her… or at least more street clothes gear ;)

Yeah! Black panties. :) Now whenever I read that, KarmaBurn’s GSD 36 comment just jumps out at me. Haha. And we need an episode of Lunamaria going on a normal date. Even if it has to be Shinn. Bleah. Or to the beach, goddamit! :P
Zyl too bad GS/GSD will never have that kind of normality. I just can’t see any possiblities for the cast to be in street/casual/beach wear unless it’s like some uncover spy mission (ala GSD 24-25 or when Kira & Cagalli accidentally met Andy in GS).
They seriously need to do a comedy spinoff of GS/GSD one day. The possbilities would just endless if they ever did! :)

Moyism, thanks for the heads-up. I didn’t register for their login to access the torrent and since they’re disbanding, I won’t register now. Pity, I heard that their translations weren’t the best but that they produce a sub within 24 hours of the raw being released. Guess will wait for Haro^2 Tori^2 or SEED.
Yes, comedy spinoff is good! Stripey opined to me that there’s good potential for GSD harem series just based on Athrun alone. :)
Athrun is a lucky man then. Four girls in total and knowing Athrun’s pesonality, he’d probably let them down nicely but in a way that somehow make the girls think they still have a chance with him.

Yea, it was TM Revolution’s “Vestige.” I don’t know why so many people hate the OP as I personally love Chemistry’s “Wings of Words.” I’ll admit it’s very different (and probably the weakest sequence visually) from all the other GS/GSD OPs we’ve had, but its still a great song in itself.
On TM Revolution’s works… you know after awhile, all his songs sound the same. “Vestige,” however, was pretty good and worked well with S-Freedom’s 1st battle. ^_^
Zyl, I would keep the doujinshi coming but I’m tapped out of translated stuff. Literally the only ones I could post are the untranslated hentai and newtype jp ones. =/
Yeah, I complained about Wings of Words being too sedate but I don’t actively dislike it.
