Yeah, yeah, I know Mikoto Suou and Eri Sachikawa are not gay at all. In School Rumble, it’s very clear that they do have their respective male love interests. Just let a guy have some fun, ok? (笑
Anyway, after seeing WF’s 2005-06-29 status update I’ve decided to go ahead with this little flight of fantasy rather than wait for the last four eps to be released.
And so this is one of the differences between gals and guys.
Eri: So you’re breaking your promise to me. You’re not taking to me to your special place to see the annual fireworks cuz you’re chasing a guy?
Mikoto: Yes, I’m sorry! He’s back and this is really important to me!
Eri: I see.
(dramatic pause)
Eri: You suck, choosing a guy over your friends. (hangs up)
Mikoto: WTF!?
vs.
Guy A: I can’t go out with the guys tonight cuz I’m chasing a girl. Sorry!
Guy B: She chio or not!?
Guy A: Of course lah.
Guy B: Wah lao, then what you waiting for? Go! Go!!!
But in the context of this post, with the yuri googles on and at maximum power, one could just see this as Eri being terribly possessive of Mikoto. That Mikoto fails to get her guy returns the situation to the status quo.
Akira is the most perceptive person in the class and the above exchange took place in the context of Eri showing annoyance at Imadori making his usual attempts to flirt with Mikoto. Though I wonder if she’s just yanking Eri’s chain by making fun of her possessiveness toward Mikoto or implying that Eri has got stronger feelings for Mikoto than she cares to admit. Eri’s reaction certainly suggests that she thinks Akira meant the latter.
So the evidence is scant but the dynamics are not unpromising. Mikoto could very well be the rough-edged “prince” to Eri’s princessy behaviour. Upon some reflection, this is actually quite one-sided i.e. from Eri, stemming from her possessiveness and her tendency to take what Mikoto says more seriously than with others.
The only outright yuri moment was in episode 19. After Hanai and Harima fight to be the groom to Tsukamoto in another silly misunderstanding, Akira takes over the substitute groom for the photo shoot. She then leads a bridally adorned Yakumo off, saying that she and Yakumo will go on a date, to which Sarah replies, “I’m so envious! Maybe it will be my turn next time.” My first impression was that Sarah wanted to go on a date with Akira but Stripey thinks Sarah meant that she would like to go on a date with Yakumo. I initially dismissed his interpretation as he was probably really talking about himself and not Sarah but after rewatching it and considering that his ecchi power is (only just a bit) greater than mine, I will have to change my mind and agree with him afterall. :P
Finally, at last count, my favourite Sukuran girls (in descending order) are Karen, Mikoto, Yakumo, Tenma, Eri.
Ecchi power belongs to the Dark side, my (ex) Jedi brother… remember what we were taught at Jedi academy before you were led astray by yuri to the Dark side?
Pantsu leads to ecchi.
Ecchi leads to hentai.
And hentai leads to the Dark side….
It is not ecchi but bishoujo power that I tap from the Force. And yes, the Force is strong in Yakumo indeed. I would gladly give up all my Star Wars action figurines to have a date with her. :)
Ah, but if only you knew the power of the yuri!
